My Harmon Kardon AVR 430 will not play sound and displays "unlock" when optical is selected

At first it would play sound fine, but only from the tuner (radio) and I can not get it to work with my PS3 or any other equipment via optical input or RCA cables. What should I do?

Try resetting the system. While unit is in standby mode press and hold the tone button on the receiver untill the unit turn on. This should reset the system to brand new out of box condition.

SOURCE: harmon kardon avr 25 II

hey i also had this problem, i don't know the name of these but they are basically plugs that you have to block output from the front rear and center speakers of the white/red cables... sry for bad description but its on the left side when looking at the back of the receiver, while all of the other speaker wires should be hooked up to the right with the twisting knobs... it took me forever to find this out but yeah it was a simple fix

SOURCE: cannot get dts from my Harmon Kardon AVR 300 via my Blue Ray

I'm not sure if this solution is still necessary however:

I own a H/K AVR300 and have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to the TV and Optical TOSLink to the receiver. I have no troubles selecting between DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1. I can even select trueHD whatever format but I can't detect an audible difference, I think that mode might be downgraded back to regular DD5.1...

Hope this helps...

SOURCE: Audio problems using a Playstation 3

First try ensuring that "OPT 1, 2, or 3" function is selected depending which one you are using on the H/K 146 (see manual for selection instructions). Next please ensure that the PS3 audio out set to "optical" (Settings/sound settings/audio output settings/digital out+DD 5.1). That should help.

No sound from tv to speakers

i assume you are hooking up from tv to receiver with an optical cable? Check the settings on your tv. Most tv's have a setting to turn on/off the optical audio output

Try using the RCA outputs once and see if that works..One other thing don't use the phono input on the receiver as it could damage the amplifier

Hook sound surrond

You probably have to select the optical input from the menu for sources of your component connection. Most receivers allow you to select optical, coax, or plain PCM right/left audio.

Why does my avr 100 say OPTI.when i try to play the radio, and no sound comes out

It is trying to input a signal via the Optical digital input. You need to switch the input control on the front panel or remote to Analog.

Hi if there is an optical out on the television i would use that direct to your Harmon Kardon AVR 125, the sound would be in sync with picture, as the source is the same.

Harmon kardon 745 displays "unlock" no sound for tv or movies

I also had this UNLOCK message on my Harman Cardon AVR 130.
The reason for this error was - in a hurry I've plugged the optical input into optical OUT! Double check that your connections in the back are correct and hopefully it fixes your problem.

Cheers,
