The screen on my Toshiba Satellite P100 ( model PSPA1C-TM30XE) seems to be shot - first two milky white vertical lines about an inch wide each appeared, and now the screen display is over-saturated with colour and almost impossible to read. The unit was purchased in 2004. Can the screen be replaced or does the whole computer need to be replaced? Meanwhile, is it possible to view the screen only in black and white? If so how ?
The LCD can be replaced. The part is around $50-$75 I believe. It can be tricky to replace, but if you take your time, you can save money by doing it yourself. The screen sounds cracked or broken, and black & white will not work either.
good luck
here is one vendor on ebay that carries the part, if you need it. It is a USA seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-TOSHIBA-SATE...

I generally use Ebay for most of these purchases, mainly because the purchase is protected through Paypal and the selection is huge...you are not confined generally to one supplier, so everyone bargains.

Not sure if you will find one... Process on toshibas is:
Pop top cover (sometimes also secured with a few screws on side or bottom of laptop) near monitor base above keyboard to access LCD cable and mount screws
Unplug cable and remove monitor mounting screws (Under plate, on back where cables plugin, and sometimes on bottom)
Take monitor (on flat surface) and remove screw covers with needle so you can put them back on later.
Remove all screws
Use plastic credit card and run around outside lip of screen case until removed
Remove LCD mounting screws
Remove LCD and inverter
Remove LCD brackets and inverter from panel
Replace panel and start working backwords.

Probably a failed AC adapter. Please try to charge the laptop with a good, working AC adapter & see if the problem disappears.
