megabits is smaller
if you want to back up 2.83 gb get a usb flash drive
get a 5gb unit
usb sticks (flash drive) rated at 5 gb will hold 4.5 gb of data as the rating is the total capacity but all flash drives require a small amount of space to work so the actual amount of data capacity is always less than the stated size on the flash drive
the capacity rating is-- smallest to largest --bytes, mega bytes , gigabytes, and terabytes
Maybe you have available unpartitioned space left in the hard disk. To check this: 1. Right click on the "Computer" icon on the desktop and select "manage" 2. After the Computer Management window appears, select Disk Management. It should show you if you have any unpartitioned drive space. 3. You can up or format your unpartitioned spaces from hereon. may be your harddisk is corrupted and has space 296GB only or sometimes all drives contains some space for system file in that space is hidden
clickstart click on
my computer you will see your hard drive usually C: right click on it select
properties you will see all used GB on your hard drive and all free space
I
think it could be due to virus activity. Some virus make the contents
of the drive hidden, thats why user can't see the files and the space
available for use is less than the capacity. It is suggested that go
to FOLDER OPTIONS - and seclect SHOW HIDDEN FILES. It may show the
hidden files. Otherwise, if you dont have any vital data on the drive,
just format it. Hope this would fix the issue and you would be able to
enjoy the full capacity of the disk
Let me know if any further clarification is required. Hope this helps! Dont forget to rate the solution!! CreativeTECH
When your hard disk capacity says 320, that does not mean 320 GB fo free space, Total capacity is 320 GB, from this space required for the partition table, boot sector, etc will be taken, Dont worry only the available free space will be shown.
Three possible reasons: 1. Your IDE cable is defective or is not seated/plug in correctly. Try to replace or re-seat/re-insert; 2. The on-board disk management of the hard disk is corrupted/defective. There is no remedy except to replace the PCboard or the entire hard disk; 3. Your motherboard BIOS/CMOS needs to be flashed and/or something is wrong with the IDE interface.
Of the 3, # 1 is the most common.
Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
After clearing CMOS and it still doesn't work, try to run FDISK on the drive. Delete partitions and create a new one. There could be a hidden partition which could be using the other hard drive space. Restart PC and then format again. This should allow you to use the full hard drive capacity.
