Satellite A20---is it possible to boot from external burner

Hi, Try to set-up your bios setting need first boot cd/dvd drive.Power on your PC, then press F2 to go bios setting, change first to CD/DVD drive first boot and then insert your cd or dvd operating system.if same problem. try also yung USB external cd or DVD drive.

If it still boots, try hitting F8 during startup and see if you can boot safe mode (I'm assuming you're using Windows) and if so, use add-remove programs to uninstall the software.

If it doesn't boot at all then you might have a different problem altogether.

DON'T try to find a NEW exact replacement CD/DVD Drive! Because they are 'exotic' they are super expensive ~ IF you can even find one.

Note that MANY of these drives requires TWO 'free' or unused USB ports. It's BETTER to pick on a drive WITH a external wall power supply to keep your USB ports free as possible.

Because of the AGE of your system do not expect to find drivers or upgrades for USB booting... you have enough problems!

This guy has TOSHIBA DRIVER CDs so MESSAGE him and ASK if he has a disk for your Satellite 4080XCDT?> A CD will save you a TON of time trying to find these older drivers! He did mention a 4060 series but I was unable to locate one for the 4080.

I would go into the BIOS and make sure that the correct drive and drive type is there. Up on the boot sequence, hit F2 and go into the BIOS.

Also, go to the toshiba website download the drivers you need. I do it all the time.

Hello, before you do anything drastic, my computer crashed and on reboot said the same thing. After panicking (and a cup of tea), I found the bios had defaulted to booting from the wrong disk. All was ok after I set the bios back to boot from the correct disk again.

newer models come with a boot mode using usb memory, older ones might have none... try updating your bios.

it would be easier to use an external dvd/cd drive if in case your internal dvd drive is defective. thereon, you can start re-installing the XP OS using the external dvd/cd drive. hope this will help your problem. thanks
