if you have a bad odor, pull off the vent line from the back and see if an animal is dead there,i've found dead birds, mice and a possum,in the blower wheel of some dryers, they get in from the outside hood, once they get into the vent line and slide down they can't climb back out or if the dryer is running the wheel does a job on them.also if you had some painting or staining done this also can make the dryer smell bad.this is going by what i've found when someone complains about an odor in the dryer.hope this helps, one more thing if the motor is overheating from the dryer not being cleaned out it could have like a shellac smell, you might have to take the dryer apart to see what's stinking or it could be something near the dryer, when the air is heated in the dryer it makes the smell worse but if you find waht is causing it and remove it the smell will go away,if it is from a dead animal you can wash down the area with soapy water, you don't want to use anything with a strong smell because your clothes will smell of that when the dryer heats up.what does it smell like?
Hi,
If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum. Also, if there are any solvents, paints, lacquers, etc. in use in the house, your dryer may alter and/or amplify the fumes to an odor unlike the natural fumes given by the solvent, paint, etc.
Here's what to do:
First, clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and ductwork of your dryer.
Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer.
Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels.
If the dryer has been sitting for a while, that may just be dust or lint that has gotten stirred up inside the dryer and ended up on the heating element. This is normal and it will go away. This often occurs after the dryer has been moved or cleaned.
However, just in case, you may want to review your power cord installation one more time. The following link explains:
Verify your installation paying particular attention to how to you have terminated the Ground and Neutral wires. Make sure the terminals are tight and not loose. Loose connections can cause arcing and excessive current which results in burned wiring or melted insulation. If it is correct, make sure you don't have any heavy accumulations of dust or lint inside the dryer cabinet. If the odor does not go away within a day, stop using the appliance and let me know. I hope this helps you.
Usually when a gas dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat .If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum.

Have a qualified appliance repair technician inspect the dryer for damage caused by any lint fire.
Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer. Gas dryers have a large flame when operating properly and can ignite the fumes of any flammable liquid or gas.

use straight bleach on it. sponge down the whole inside with bleach and if you can leave the doors open on it to let it breathe and clear the odor out. bleach kills most smells if left on for awhile.go over it a couple of times if you have to to get rid of the smell.
remove grill. pan will not come out ( leave it in place ) took an empty liquid dish detergent botlle of bleach and water squirt into pan let it sit - scape if needed . then take a wet/dry vac - repeat) I will let you now if the odor is completely gone
