If you are using a 3/8" copper line for your gas, get it replaced ASAP. It will fail. 1/2" Black Iron is required with natural gas. 50 gallons is a lot of water to heat. Look on the heater label for the recovery rate.

Will well water cause a problem on the heat pump water heater

I would say yes.
Because element may not be easy to replace, or easy to reset unit after replacement
I would also suggest not buying heat pump... must be in at least 10'x10' room with 7" space around entire heater

Had to replace main board and power supply, now have a heat pump error. HPF code F4.Unit is 2 years old.

Type, brand, model number of water heater is not known.
If you have GE heat pump water heater, the parts are covered after first year for defects in workmanship. Otherwise the expensive water heater is not covered if it stops working.
The risk of failure is perfect reason to avoid expensive water heaters, because all costs are energy, and these units cannot guarantee longevity, even with correct and regular maintenance.
If your new laptop computer needs a motherboard, that's red flag that the computer machine will never work correctly again. Same is true for water heaters, or any expensive digitally-controlled appliance.
Same is true for tankless water heaters and hybrid water heaters and condensing water heaters and complicated solar water heater systems.
Call the manufacturer and see what they say.
Check voltage to unit. Make sure the unit is grounded.
Post question with exact mode and brand name on professional water heater forum.

New Rheem electric 50 gallon not heating

Check the elements, if you have access to a meter to check them. If they are getting power to elements and you have no hot water.
The elements are not working correctly. I had some elements check out ok till the thermostat's turned on and the elements didn't heat.
Sounds like the elements are bad.

New electric water heater doesn't seem to be working.

Take off the two grey covers, being really careful because you are dealing with live electricity, and make sure that the adjustments on the temp is set high enough to even turn on. sometimes they come from the factory that is not set high enough to even heat the water.
