I called Kohler because my fill valve will stick while filling. It stops and continues filling hours later. I believe it's due to our very hard water. Kohler suggested I take the entire fill valve out and soak it in vinegar. Should I take the time to do this or just replace the valve? It's about 5 years old.
SOURCE: toilet tank fill valve sprays water towards lid
Hi bpmorr1,
It may be that the fill tube has come disconnected . It runs from the top of the fill valve to the overflow. The overflow is the tube that runs up the middle of the tank. The fill tube runs from the top of the fill valve to the top of the overflow tube. Kohler has a little clip that can sometimes come undone and cause spraying.
If that doesn't do it, turn the water off to the toilet and take off the tank lid. Partially open valve ( Slowly). Locate where spray is coming from. If it is in the area on top of the fill valve then yes, buy anew one. ( Fluidmaster )
Please rate this response and good luck, Phil
SOURCE: valve adjustment
You need to replace the flapper and you will need to purchase one specifically for the Kohler toilet. I have the same toilet and tried using a generic flapper and from experiance, it didn't work until I bought the correct one and I'm a plumber! Have a great night.

Sounds like your flapper is leaking causing the water in the tank to lower until it triggers the fill valve. Replace the flapper (they're cheap and wear out easily).
