You probably have a stuck solenoid which routes the water either to the arms or out of the machine. It is located near the motor and routes to the drain line. Most are removable and may be disassembled for cleaning. If the control knob does not advance, the issue is different.
I have the exact same problem, sounds like it anyway. Seems like the timer motor is no longer working. When I slowly turn the control knob most of the functions will activate in sequence(such as inlet valve, main circulating pump, drain pump etc.) just won't advance thru on it's own. It will sit at what ever position I leave the knob at (ie: continues to drain, or let in water , or circulate water without stopping unless I open door, or rotate knob.) Can the timer motor itself be tested and if it is faulty, can it be replaced?
