I have a maytag centennial washer MVWC400XWO it is 3 years old. The washer has stopped after the initial wash cycle leaving the cloths wet in a tub full of water. The washer will not go to the spin/drain cycle. The lid can be opened and when shut and reset the sense-ing light comes on along with the door lock light but nothing happens. I have removed the wet cloths and bailed out most of the water now the washer will not fill with any water and does not work.

For saftey the lid lock and lid down switch must be activated before the machine can advance to the next cycle. This has been the sequence for all top loaders..

Check the switch for the lid it is likely defective.

Make sure that the power is removed.

Simple repair by a qualified technician.

Hope this helps?

I found the crazy sound where comes from, it was an aluminum ring in the drain pump.
First of all, I took out the belt under the bottom, checked moter to run itself, it was fine, so, I suspected some waste in somewhere, it was lucky I disassembled the drain pump first, no waste in the drain pump, but I saw a ring that was cut under the pump (seems should be connected), when I try to spin the pump wheel by hand it is broken because of the ring.
I ordered the entire drain pump on the website, the cost $74 + delivery fee, I recognized Maytag re-designed the drain pump due to the ring ( new pump does not have the ring anymore). Now the washer works fine like new.

SOURCE: Washer immediately goes into wash cycle when

The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.

I have a Maytag MHWE550WJ washer (Maytag 5000 with steam). The wash cycle doesn't operate properly, clothes come out wet.I have run the self test and it works perfectly. No error code is displayed.

Most washers of my experience have at least one programme that stops the wash, leaving water in the tub until the programmer is advanced a notch by hand when it will pump out and enter the rinse/spin cycles.

I suggest you reread the instructions just to be clear whether there is a fault.

Wash cycle will agitate 3 spins then nothing for a few minutes then 3 more and nothing again and repeat over and over

you may want to put it through a diagnostics cycle and check for error codes... Maytag Centennial Washer Repair Guide
The tub sensor can cause the washer to act strangely like that. Also there are two mechanical styles of washer branded Maytag Centennial. The model number would help to know we are talking about the one I think we are talking about.
Hope that helps!

There is no belt on that unit. It is a direct drive machine. When the unit goes into the wash cycle, does the motor run but it does not agitate?

Maytag centennial washer not working properly in Normal cycle. After it shuts off there is still water in the bottom of the tub. I can move the dial to another setting such as Casual cycle or Heavy Duty...

We have the same problem. The Normal cycle still works, but after the final spin cycle, water is again added (1 gal est.) and the machine stops. Problem occurred after washing an old 25 x 30 inch rug which partially disentegrated when washed. We were seeing particles of the rug in subsequent wash cycles during drain into laundry tub. Don't know if something is plugged in the washer or if it is something else. In another load after the rug wash, the top of the washer was lifted during the wash cycle. The water problem occurred immediately after lifting the lid as the wash load went through remaining cycles. Maybe this affected the timer? Maytag customer service suggested unplugging power cord to re-set timer. This didn't make any difference. We need a technician to tell us if this is a timer problem or something else?
