Bandwidth My signal is cut in half from my ISP

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2013

I probably wasn't specific enough when I asked and I'm sorry. Specific to the Cayman 3386-ent. When I plug my modem straight into my computer, I can get 37Mbps but when I route through the Cayman, I only get 15Mpbs. I'm splitting my signal between my desktop and a wireless access point. I haven't checked the bandwidth through my laptop on wireless but when I unplugged the WAP, nothing changed and I was still losing bandwidth so I'm assuming that the Cayman is the source of my problem.

Netflix often freezes up.

Most often these problems are due more to the network and not the equipment. If you are connecting wirelessly and have numerous users on you home network, bandwidth can become an issue. Signal strength also affects throughput. If that is not the case, then is could be your ISP bandwidth allocation. Many users only have 25 Mb connections. These may be alright, but again multiple users and HD streaming demands can cause buffering and gridlock. Those are the issues you can investigate and control. Others, such as local ISP bandwidth and time of day you cannot. With more and more people "disconnecting" from cable and going to streaming services, the demands on local ISP trucks is becoming critical. An easy analogy is to think about the evening hours on the internet in terms of highway traffic. The main roads around town are easy to navigate at 2am, but what happens at 5pm? Primetime evening hours 7pm-11pm are times when many heavy use services occasionally have buffering/freezing issues. YouTube and Netflix are the most common problem areas as they have the largest user load at these times. Lowering the resolution can improve the continuity, but at a loss of picture quality. The final solution here s for the ISPs to increase bandwidth in their areas of congestion. This takes time and is not keeping up with the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth from the users. If you upgrade you ISP speed, you often get assigned to a different router (IP address) on the network, and this may put you on a slightly less loaded subnetwork. The ISPs cater to those who pay for the higher speeds first when it comes to system upgrades. So either grin and bear it, or shell out a few bucks more and get a little better service. Believe me though, I have 75 Mb internet and even I have issues of buffering, but not as often as in my 25 Mb days.

What Is The minimum internet speed Netfix will streamline and operate decently? Will it work with any internet provider? how to get signal to my Samsung blue ray from my wifi router?

This is from Netflix Website.

Several ISP providers are throttling Netflix because they consume a huge amount of bandwidth that the ISP does not get additional revenue for. Check with your neighbors and see what they are using.
Internet Connection Speed Recommendations Below are the Internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing movies and TV shows through Netflix.
  • 0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
  • 1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
  • 3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
  • 5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
  • 25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality
HD Video Quality
Movies and TV shows we have available in high definition will play in 720p or better with a fast enough internet connection. To watch Netflix in HD, ensure you have an HD plan, then set your video quality setting to High in the Playback Settings for your account.
Netflix Bandwidth Usage
Higher quality video uses more bandwidth than lower-quality video. If your service provider applies a bandwidth or data cap to your Internet service, you canManage Bandwidth Usage by changing the video quality settings to Low or Medium to consume less data.

I want to download music to my computer using broadband connection but i always failq it says internet connection has been cut off!

I'm guessing your ISP (internet service provider) may limit your bandwidth and is cutting you off for 'hogging' it. I suggest you call them and ask if that is the problem. They'll probably want more money for more bandwidth.

As im online my internet mbps were around 8 and out of know where im running at 1.5 and tried everything. any hints?

You could be getting a condition known as Low Bit Rate (where your connection suddenly dies out)- or possible capping of your bandwidth by your ISP.

The best bet in any case is to contact your ISP's technical support team- if it's low bit rate, you may need a technician out to service your connection or a replacement modem sent- if it's capping due to bandwidth consumption, at least you would now now the limits that your ISP has for your connection.

HI, If its a Internet link which u are speaking about, Please connect the LAN to the System with LAN wire and check the speed. the Problem will be due to low connectivity issue. Wireless router will not increase the bandwidth, it can able to provide the same or below the bandwidth which it received from the ISP.

We get alot of drop outs with our connection,we host a chatroom & are wanting to know if that is the reason we get all our drop outs, even tho even when we closed the room it still happens. So it...

If you have seen that the connection drop outs occur after closing the chat room that might not be the reason. Connection dropouts may occur due to bandwidth utilization reaches more than the expected ratio but only for a poor connection. So you have to check your connection and signal strength as well as the bandwidth supported. Make sure that your ISP do not disconnect sessions which overloads the servers. You have to contact your ISP. Since you have not mentioned details about your connection and related devices I cannot say anything directly. Don't forget to include them next time. Feel free to contact again through this thread. Thanks for using Fixya!

Using camera with skype

This is most likey because of bandwidth issues.
If you turn off your camera and audio works fine then it's most likely you haven't got enough grunt to push Video and audio down the line. You can find internet sites out there that can test your internet speed, if it comes back with poor results then talk to your ISP or look for another Internet Service Provider

Sampling of the signal in "Analog communication".

The signal and signal frequency remain unchanged. In this context, these terms refer to the incoming, and not resultant, aspects of the system.

However, because the Nyquist frequency (1.75kHz, or half the sampling rate) is not greater than the signal bandwidth (4kHz), aliasing will be introduced into any reconstructed signal that is based on these samples. Not enough data about the signal has been captured to be able to recreate it in its original form.

If the signal is very simple (a sine wave, for instance), the "apparent frequency" of the result can be calculated without too much trouble. A more complex signal (i.e. a voice signal with a bandwidth of 4kHz) presents more analysis problems.

I suggest you read your textbook for further information.
