Question about Maytag 15 cu. ft. / 425 liter Upright Freezer MQU1556A
I have a maytag upright freezer, only 1 1/2 years old. The top shelf and door have stopped freezing. Thought it was the seal but it seals properly. I've turned up the stat but only cold air on the bottom shelves. Any idea and is this expensive to fix

The reason for ice buildup is an air leak. Recheck all around the gasket by taking a dollar bill and closing the door on it and pulling it out. If you don't have resistance, you found your leak. Heat that area with a blow dryer to relax the gasket and close the door to let the magnet and seal set. Also, rub some vasoline on the hinge side gasket to keep it from dragging.

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.

check to make sure door seals are touching the frame all round, could be an air leak, also make sure there is no ice build up around the inside casing. if so fully defrost unit, clean all vents/drain pipe, then turn back on and leave it for 24hrs (freezers work beast when full).....and door shut..how many times have you closed door after them????
