Kohler Rialto flap valve leak

Kohler Rialto toilet model K3402BP
Manufactured 1989

I have replaced the flap valve numerous times with a 'Kohler' or generic flap valve. I have cleaned the flap valve seat to make sure it is smooth. I can effect a seal if I push down on the flap valve. I have added some weight to the valve to help it to seat and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I understand this is a common problem with this model. Kohler has suggested a kit for $126.00 to replace all the parts, but they don't have any because the manufacturer has gone out of business, or a new more water efficient toilet. Either option is considerable expense as I have two of these with the same problem. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you
Peter

    Thanks for your help.

Guys I have the same frustrating problem witht the Kohler hinge flap. Whenever you flushed the flapper pulled to the left and wasn't completed seated. I bought a couple of different flappers (thinking there was a defect) and then started to research the problem a bit. However I figured out that I didn't have the flapper snapped into the ridged place holders in the back. You have to pull forward very hard and make sure that the rubber hinge is seated in the ridge. Once I did that, the flapper no longer pulled to the left when flushed. There are different heights of ridges. I snapped mine at the third ridge from the bottom. Hope this helps.

If the flappper isn't closing, there is no suction AKA a clog perhaps.

Kohler toliets can be a pain to repair. I have found with them that the only thing to do with them is go to a plumbing company, take the model number with you and replace all in the inner parts to it. You will replace the fill valve and flush valve. After I do this on Kohler I don't have anymore problems with them. It should work for you, just make sure they are Kohler parts. Good Luck

Kohller Rialto toilet, can not get toilet to seat properly, leaks from bottom. Tried 3 different wax seals and it still leaks. Toilet was purchased online from Home Depot, and cannot return to store. Same...

If you tried regular sized wax rings and they failed to seal, try using a double thickness wax ring, maybe the space between the floor flange and the toilet exceeds a regular wax ring size. If the floor has been re-tiled and the floor flange was not adjusted this could be your problem, anyhow good luck!

Water running off and on and comes out from top piece.

you unfortunately need a new fill valve. I say unfortunately because they are expensive, (about $120), for that model and not everywhere sells them. It it was a "regular" toilet, the part would be a any home store and cost about $10. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. How old is the toilet? You may consider replacing the whole thing.

Kohler one-piece lowboy..rialto? leaks from suply below tank

I'm assuming based on your post that the leak is outside the toilet near the inlet to the fill valve. Based on 10 years in the business, there shouldn't be holes in or near this place. Have you tried replacing the fill valve? If you go to the hardware store and look at a new fill valve, you will find that there aren't any holes. They aren't expensive, so I would just replace it.
