Lift the vehicle by using of jack.
Remove the engine support bracket.
Remove the power steering belt.Remove the air conditioning compressor belt.Remove the alternator belt
Remove the coolant pump pulley.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Remove the timing belt cover.
Move the timing belt tensioner pulley toward the coolant pump and temporarily secure it
.Remove the timing belt
Remove the camshaft from the camshaft sprocket
Remove the crankshaft sprocket and flange.
Remove the timing belt idler.
Remove the timing belt tensioner.
re install in reverse order. chances are the rod is bent but without breaking down the cylinder the only way to determine is to but a new belt on and see what happens. good luck.

DID THE BELT BREAK AND THEN IT WAS CHANGED. If so then you may have bent valve. IF NOT then vehicle may be timed wrong. 1st you may want make sure that's not an interference engine. if it is then chances are the valves are bend in the head. changing the timing belt probably won't help then. If its not an interference head, then you would need a timing mark diagram which can be found online. be very careful that all marks are aligned. when finshed installing the timing belt, rotate engine by hand twice and re-align marks before putting the rest back together! hyundai should be able to tell u if the engine runs interference or not.
