Hi,

Thank you for choosing Fixya.com

It seems that your DVD player are experiencing technical problem like malfunctioning the hardware.

Use your technical manual to assist in the troubleshooting process. There should be a section in your tech manual called "Troubleshooting." This is the section you want.

Figure out which part or parts are malfunctioning in your system. Write down the specific parts numbers of the pieces you need to replace. Make sure that your writing is accurate and that the numbers and letters are in the right arrangement as well as capitalized where they need to be.

Check with your local electronics supplier to see if they have the parts you need. If they don’t, they will likely be able to point you in the right direction

Some Tips to Remind:

1. Some DVD players require special tools to work on them. Make sure you're well-equipped before you operate.

2. Get a professional opinion. Make sure that the cost of tools and parts is less than having a professional fix your DVD player.

3. Make sure your DVD player is unplugged before you work on it. Shocking hazards are a very real danger.

4. Double check your warranty to insure that what you're doing will not make your warranty null and void. Often there's a clause in warranties that states that professional maintenance is the only approved work that can be done on your unit.

Disconnect DVD from current.Open the DVD cover. Disconnect the power cables that connects to the mainboard. Check the power supply with a multimeter that if it is supplying recommended power (recommended power consumption might be typed in power supply). If no, replace power supply. If power supply is ok, check the laser carefully if it produces laser beam. Don't directly contact eye with laser beam. Check from a distance. Also check the mainboards biggest chip if it is heating. If laser beams and main chip is heating than your mainboabd might be ok. If does not or one working and another not working, replace mainboard.

Keep informing. (I guess your mainboard has gone)

If you had some functionality we could try a few tricks but with your situation I would consider just buying a new dvd player. They're very inexpensive now since blu-ray is quickly becoming the new format of choice.

You might want to visit the manufacturers website to see if you can get a replacement if it's still under warranty. Most electronic warranties are 1-3 years.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks!

The Dvd player has a major problem(s), seems like the dvd drive is not getting power since it doesn't open.

I would suggest to check fuses on the power board and inspect it theres possibly a problem.

Is the unit covered by warranty? warranty would cover the repair.

What is your brand and model details .

Just press the open button two to three times to open the tray .

Your player is not getting enough power . You need to open the player to find the part which is defective .
First unplug the unit and using special tools open it .
And using multimeter check the continuity between the panel elements and on board .
Before doing this check the condition of fuse ? Is it burned or is it good ?
If it is good then check the continuity between all contacts point in the player . There can be a loose connection between board and panel.

    Hope this helps .

For further help feel free to ask .

My Sony CFD SO1 keeps skipping/display light keeps flashing

That is an electronic problem. Probably a just-about-to-break cable in the motor of the CD drive, that sometimes causes a short and turns off the unit, or sometimes makes it to comport erratically and produce the buzzy sound. If you have electronics knowledge, then you may open and check the wiring harnesses. If don't, take it to your local electronics repair.
