Yes, camera came with a rechargeable battery and is only 10 months old. I just tried battery in a different camera and that worked so problem is not my battery.

Are you using rechargeable batteries and if so, how old are they.

If the battery is ok it suggests the charger unit is faulty.

If still under warranty, your supplier should exchange this free.

If out of warranty, I suggest buying a standalone battery charger to charge your battery without connecting the camera (and maybe a spare battery - always handy to carry a spare with you).

They are not very expensive.

Regards,

Mike.

Nikon d40 won't power up

The Nikon D40 uses the EN-EL9 7.4 Volt Li-ion Battery. You should be able to read 7.4 V DC between the (+) & (-) terminals of the battery after it has been in the charger for several hours. If it does not, it indicates a bad battery, charger or both. There should over 7.4 V DC on the terminals of the charger if there isn't, it suggests a bad charger. If the battery voltage is OK, make sure it is inserted correctly. If still having trouble, it may be related to the camera power switch or internal circuitry. This will require returning to Nikon for repair. Good luck!

I need to find a dealer who still sells the nikon d40 dslr camera.

Walmart stores still sell that camera. see: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nikon-D40-Slr-Camera-Kit/5607412
You can also purchase it at Amazon on line. at: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=d40+camera&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=4645848837&ref=pd_sl_6lzr40qz09_e

You can also try Pawn Shops as cameras are gotten rid of all the time.

The flash on my Nikon D40 will flash but not enough to take a picture,

There is a setting for the flash power on your camera. Refer to the manual to find out how to set the flash power. It is given as Flash exposure compensatinon.

Fitting a Sigma Lenset to Nikon D40

You have to make sure you bought the sigma lens with a NIKON mount. Sigma makes a Sigma mount as well as a Canon mount, of course neither of those mounts will work with your camera. Also you must also make sure your lens is the Sigma 70-300 HSM (/Hyper Sonic Motor) or it will not AF on the D40. I just bought this lens from Abes of Maine and I love it on my D40.

Nikon d40 digital camera

When the camera is in auto focus mode, it will not take the picture until it locks onto a subject. If there is not enough light, the camera will "hunt" for something to focus on. Since it can't define any edges, it won't allow the shutter to release.

The D40 base model does NOT have a powered focus lever for autofocus, so if the autofocus is not working, suspect the lens.
