Sounds like a bad power switch. When you push the power button, it will initiate the unit to turn on, but if the switch does not keep the power on to the unit when you let go of the power switch, then the unit goes into shut down mode. Then the unit will display good bye. I would have the power switch looked at first.

Probable cause. Plastic on/off power switch slider is cracked and cannot operate actual power switch. Need to disassemble netbook to gain access to switch. Superglue may provide temp solution but best option to contact Samsung for part.
I have the same problem, I found that the power slide switch had a crack on the piece that slides the power switch on the motherboard. Unfortunately you have to take the laptop apart to access this. A bit of crazy glue and your back in business!!

Samsung 711MP S, Type GH117TS 17" LCD TV. Same fault - will not switch on. Check the following, On the switch mode Power supply board - Electrolitic Capactors C241, C242 and C243 (470uF 25V dc) were faulty - They were bulging at the top of the can. Replaced these three and the tv starts up ok.
