Refigerator leaked oil after moving and storage

Refigerator does not even turn on now. Lite comes, but compressor does not kick on. It worked fine until it was put in storage for about a year, then moved again. The last move noticed that oil leaded out from bottom after being tipped back too far with wheel dolly. Brand name is Roper... Only about two years old.

Can the oil be put back in.

How did this happen? Its it true about tipping refigerators too far. Or is that a myth... I only used it one year. Thought it was closed system.. How does oil leak out?

  • chuckalanpay Feb 22, 2009

I tipped it from the side since I was afraid of damaging the back coil and front door. But the oil didnot look or feel like regular oil. is it possible that is was just freon.. It was'nt that much.. about enought to fill shot glass.. but when I plugged it in .. I never heard the pump come on .. just lite came on.

THanks, I'll check that. COuld be a power problem...

No if there was oil leaking out then that means the refrigerant has leaked all out. you will have to have it repaired by a service tech.

if it is in fact oiil then there must be a leak in the refrigeration system. also you can tip the refrigerators back as long as you only pick it up from the side and when its tipped its tipped so that the condenser is above the c\ompressor.

the compressor should have started up when ever you plugged it in. Look and see if maybe something may have chewed thru the wires and your not sending power toi the compressor. does the fan on the outside come on?

I have a Thermo King TriPac and it doesn't like to work on hot days. I turn on A/C it runs for 2-10 mins compressor goes up/down and kicks in.

Get the refrigerant gas pressure checked by an A/C tech. It may need a top up. There is always a very small leak on the compressor because the shaft has to turn.

2002 lincoln continental makes loud noise when take foot off the gas. A/C not working even though worked fine last summer. Can feel heat coming off dash around steering wheel.

What you MIGHT be hearing, is a vacuum leak, through a cracked or broken hose or fitting. Without vacuum, the "dampers" in the A/C system will not route the cold air to the right places in the car interior. Is the compressor clutch engaged, and turning the A/C compressor? If, not, you may be low on refrigerant!

I have a royal penguin duo them fan works fine the

Low freon pressure will cause the compressor to short cycle. When not running even low freon will show full pressure. When the compressor comes on it drops the low side pressure enough to shut it down This stops the compressor from running when there is not enough freon to carry the oil needed to lubricate it.

Compressor dosent kick on

You should check for voltage at the compressor, if there is power than the compressor is siezed or it has bad starting components. You could hit it with a rubber mallet and try to free it. If there is no power at the compressor the thermostat could be stuck from sitting for so long, you could even give that whack or two and see if the comressor kicks on but if it was stuck it should be replaced, but sometimes they will continue to work. if your sure the refigerant (freon) leaked out you shouldn't try to start it because it wont work and you'll destroy the compressor you should weigh your options on getting it repared, some repair guys are rediculous,

Moved it and now compressor won't kick on...was working before it was moved to another location

Did you tip it while moving it? Tipping a refrigeration unit allows the oil to leak out of the compressor and into the rest of the system. It is recommended that you wait about 24 hrs. after tipping a refrigerator before turning it back on. If you did tip it and plug it in right after you probably burnt out the compressor.
Another thing to check for is power at the new outlet you're plugging the unit into.
Also make sure you have between three to six inches of airflow space on the sides of the unit.

How to replace valve cover gaskets on 1995 BMW 530I

sounds like a leaky oil presure switch. they will leak oil out of the wires comming out of them sometimes saturating the connector of the switch. If that isnt the problem then your oil pump is weak causing the lite to come on or your leak is so bad your oil level is so low the lite is coming on

Oil leak on a fiat punto 2001 1.2

Clean the engine block with a compressor and find out where the oil is coming from.
If there is no leak, and motor stays clean, then the oil is being combusted inside the engine, and you should get black smoke from exhaust. In this case it is time to a major repair to the engine.
