It's the flexible ribbon cable that feeds the LCD. Most likely to be the (leadless) solder that Sony's forced to use between PCB and ribbon these days. Shouldn't be an expensive repair.

Press Menu button, select Playback icon by up/down buttons and press OK (shutter) button to get in playback mode. There are few icons like self timer, movie recording mode, delete all files, delete single file/ picture etc. Please click HERE to download user manual copy that has mode details of icons in camera OR click Vivitar Support link and put camera model number to proceed. Thanks.
While in Live View or Playback, press MENU/OK, then use cursor-left/right to highlight the camera icon. Use cursor-up/down to highlight "Data & Time Imprint" and press MENU/OK. Select "OFF" and press MENU/OK.
This may be due to the CCD Image Sensor failure in the Camera. To confirm the issue, please check if the previously captured images are displaying normally. The previously captured images and icons will get displayed normally if the CCD image sensor issue is there in the Camera. If this happens only with the live view, then try Initializing the Camera. The Initialize option can be done only if the Menu of the Camera is accessible. To access Initialize select MENU-->SETTINGS-->MAIN SETTINGS-->INITIALIZE-->OK.
You may also try power resetting the camera. To power reset the Camera, remove the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute and check if the Camera works normally.
If the issue is not resolved after resetting, service may be required.
press menu then select setup tab(wrench icon) select reset all and then try taking outdoor pics again.( resetting will not delet pictures or videos from camera.
Hi, It is known problem of ccd imager failure in S3IS Canon camera and ccd imager chip will be replaced to get live view to take fresh picture.
Local camera repair shop will repair camera by replacing ccd imager chip because camera will take apart and soldering work is also involve so its not likely novice fix. Thanks.
As per the last persons solution the key icon does indicate you have locked the photo. First select the photo you want to delete, press menu, select playback menu, the key icon appears, press the weird shaped arrow button to the right of the OK; phot unlocks and allows to delete!!
