You have selected a wonderful watch... Heuer and TAG/Heuer should be gently wound by the motion of the human wrist and the falling of a centrally pivoting weight (there is no ideal direction).
AUTO-WIND function is NOT at all unique to your watch...
After a couple of CHEAPER "winders" failed me... and after I figured about 4 watches was more than enough to keep wound... I found the greatest BASIC watch winder... to run year over year (efficiently and quietly)
MTE watch winder (their very basic WTS-4).
Good luck: I WILL try to include the URL (see page 6)
I can only suggest that you call around your area where you live and see who replaces batteries. Try your local mall....most malls have a watch repair kiosk or call a local jeweler who sells watches.
If no place local, you can send them to an on-line repair such as the one in the following link: Good luck. http://jjwatchrepair.com/
DKNY is typically a quartz movement and doesn't have a "winder". I believe the part you are referring to is the crown. The watch may have stopped working for several reasons. The first three things I would suspect is that the battery died, the watch is in the set position, or the movement was damaged when the crown was coming off. If the watch is in the set position then pushing the stem in will cause the watch to run. The next thing to do is to replace the battery since it is only a few bucks. If it runs then you can replace the crown and your set. If it doesn't run I would suggest replacing the movement along with the crown and that you will have to price and see if it is within reason since this type of repair wont be covered under warranty. Depending on the model of DKNY you may have to go through DKNY for the part. Remember that they are manufactured by Fossil. You could save yourself a lot of time by going to your local watch repair shop.
mcdevito75 here, Unless you have a good knowledge of takeing apart, even just the back off your watch / pocket watch it"s best to look for a small watch repair shop in your area, but here is what you can do to possibly start your watch / pocket watch. If your watch / pocket watch hasn"t been wound in some time and that time varies from watch to watch, the oil in the watch can become a bit thick so as to not allow the mechanism to work smoothly, leave the watch / pocket watch in a warm place, window sill in the sunlight wrapped in a paper towel for anywhere between a few minutes to 1/2 hour, after the watch / pocket watch has been warmed up hopefully the oil in the mechanism has liquified enough to allow the movement to start working. You can also give the movement a little boost, after the watch /pocket watch is warm, pull out the stem as if to set the time of day, move the stem and hands, sometimes this action will get the watch ticking again. If this fails, BEST BET specially if this is an expebsive or keepsake watch, look for a small watch repair shop in your area for serviveing. approx. $45.00
You have broken or displaced setting lever in your pocket watch. That's why it is not possible to set the time. No matter in what position the winder is, the setting gear are not engaged from the clutch wheel and the time adjustment can not be done. At the same time the crown wheel still engaged in any position and this is why it still winding in both positions. As repairs of this can be done only by skilled man, go and see your nearest watchmaker and ask for help.
It is understandable that I can not execute repairs over the net, so, rate it as if I did it, please.
Many local jewelry stores have a local/regional watchmaker to whom they send watches. You might try your downtown jeweler. OTOH, all of the chain jewelry stores have contracted with local repair folks for watches and jewelry. Take the watch to one of them and they'll "send it off" for replacement of the button. Depending on the brand/model of your watch, repair is likely to be a lot less expensive than replacing the watch. I hope this helps! Please post rating, if it does. Regards, Char1ieJ
