I have a dell 6000 series Inspiron I think I need to replace the 3yr. old battery, what battery size would you buy? (I plan to keep the LT. till it dies) ( 9 cell, or 12 4400mah. or 7200)?

The input jack that is soldered to the motherboard (where the AC jack plugs in) probably has a cold solder joint. Thus the laptop switches from battery to AC power. You can try to have the solder joints re-soldered.
You may have a bios setting to check, it also may be damage on the connector or on the actual south bridge from over heating. I would load up into the bios and see if your drive is being detected and has the proper settings, try a default bios setting and see if that helps.
Hi
I think the battery you bought is not compartible with your pc notebook that is why you are experiencing such problem. All you need to do is to get to the store or outlrt where you got the battery and get it replaced for a compartible battery or better still you should go along with your system.
GOODLUCK
depending on how old the system is and how hard it was used on battery the battery may be old and dying and may need to be replaced, from my experince ive seen laptop batterys only last about a year at best
1. Reseat the battery. 2. Remove All External Components 3. Check the battery connectors on the battery and the system. Examine the connector on the battery and the system. Make sure that there is no physical damage and that it is clear of debris. 4. Remove All External Components 5. Try a known-good battery in the system, if available.
Hi,
1. Shut down the system, remove the battery and the Ac adapter from the computer.
2. Press the power on button for 10 seconds
3. Reinsert the battery
4. Power on the computer and as soon as you see the dell logo press the f2 key a couple of time
5. Using the up down arrow keys , go to the option that says battery info. If there is an error message listed kindly post it back
6. Otherwise shut down the computer reconnect the ac.adapter and check if the problem is solved
Also the battery has a diagnostic lights on it , remove the battery from the computer and press the button on the battery a set of lights would glow. If they are steady and come in a series the battery is good , If some lights are missing the battery is bad and may need replacement
You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
Thanks Mike : )
It really depends on how long you wish to use the LT without using an AC power adaptor.
If you can afford it, go for the longer lasting replacement available but they are not cheap.
