Toshiba 52" REGZA has a grainy picture

WE have a 52" REGZA Toshiba TV and it has been great but lately when we watch tv and DVD's it seems grainy on some tv channels when watching fast movement it does become rather pixulated. any suggestions. We have gone throught he settings and can't seem to find any settings that fix this. We have also tried watching a DVD straight from the HDDVD player plugged directly to the tv and no better.

There is no easy (read: cheap) solution for this. Especially because your TV is so big, the only thing that will look good on it is something that plays at the very least 720p HD output.

I don't know what your DVD player model is, but you want an upconverting DVD player, and even then, the quality will not be full HD. The only thing that is full 1080p HD on the market today is Blu-Ray, and game consoles like XBox 360 and PS3.

As for the sports, it depends on the TV you bought. If the deal was too good to be true for a 52" TV, you probably got one with a low Hz, or a high refresh rate. This means that the images played don't update quick enough for high motion video like action movies and sports, which is why it's blurry. Mine has a 3ms response time, by comparison.

Hope this helps, please rate me.

I have a Toshiba Regza 52XF550U which I purchased in late 2008. Recently we ditched the satellite carrier and switched over to digital OTA programming. The tv was working great getting nice HD picture...

Be sure that the setting in the TV is set to "AIR" NOT CABLE. After switching back, you'll probably have to re-scan. I'd bet that one of your connectors isn't crimped quite right. A single strand from the shield can kill the signal completely. If the center wire is too short or too long it can kill the signal. It should extend 1/16" to 1/8" beyond the threaded barrel part.

No Video for my cable tv. Audio works

You have the TV connected to the cable box with an HDMI cable, I'll bet. The problem is with the cable box. If you unplug the cable box and plug it back it it will reboot and proabably work. You should connect the cable box to the TV using component cables and you won't have this problem again.
