Hi,
my fujitsu 2.5IN SATA XTENDED DUTY portable hard drive is corrupted and i have very important data stalled inside the drive..can u tell me how to reformat and recover the data?
thanks
Try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this file recovery program called asoftech data recovery to recover your files.

Hi, liub97.
In your case, it is recommended to use this data recovery tool to recover as much data as possible. If you are Mac OS X user, go to this Mac hard drive recovery software.
Then follow the procedure to reformat your corrupted hard drive. Mycomputer -> Computer Management -> Storage-> Disk Management . Note: you can also opt for a third-party formatting tool.
Things are not over, after formatting, retry the program to see if more data can be recovered as you know a simple format option won't erase data permanently.
Best regards.
Plug it into your computer.
If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,you can recover data on it with data recovery program to avoid losing your data.I have succeed with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com After you recover your data, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.
If the hard drive can't be detected, you can try this way.Put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in the freezer for overnight. Then while it's still cold plug it into the computer and you may be able to view it in 'my computer'. And if needed, run the recovery program to recover your data on it.
If it fails, you will have to go to a recovery office where supply data recovery service but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money and whether they can recover data is not guaranteed.
This article will help. How to recover data from hard drive?
Recover programs for hard drive like data recovery there are many out there
THIS option should help you out. Connect your corrupted hard drive to your computer first. Then format it from: Mycomputer -> Properties -> Manage -> Computer Management -> Storage-> Disk Management -> select the problem drive and then format it fromhere.
Note: Before formatting, you'd better try a data recovery program to recover data first of all like what has suggested by other members. Here are programs you can take a try.
For Windows, go to Data Recovery for Windows;
For Mac, go to Data Recovery for Mac OS X.
After formatting, re-use the programs recommended above and rescan the drive to see if you have more harvest. Because formatting won't make files deleted permanently. Best regards
Do not reformat the drive right away! Recover the data first of all. There is a chance that you will be able to get back some of your inaccessible data, provided those items were not overwritten (if you continue saving more data to the drive).
First things first: STOP using the external hard dive that you want to recover data from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of data recovery.
Then Recommend you have a try of Wondershare Data Recovery, a data recovery program with both Windows and Mac versions provided. It should help you. Get the related versions here,
Data Recovery Windows (for Windows)
Data Recovery Mac (for Apple Mac OS)
Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your hard drive until you can recover your data safely!
After you perform data recovery, then use some format tool to reformat the hard drive or format it under "Disk Management" manually. I hope you good luck!
Card Data Recovery is a nice data recovery program.
Why do you think that drive is corrupted? Is this drive still recognizable on your computer or laptop?
In fact, as I know, as long as this drive is still readable on your computer, you often can take chances with external drive data recovery software to rescue your lost drive files back as many as possible.
So, just plunge this drive to PC and download proper data recovery software to go on, like this: http://freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/02/external-hard-disk-format-recovery.html
But, if this drive cannot be read on your computer or other machines any longer, this drive must be damaged seriously. If you really think the inner data is pretty important, some data recovery agencies may help. But, it is not so hopeful.
Note: IN the future, save two or more data duplicates on different storage devices all the time.
Is it still recognized by the computer?
As I know, the corrupted hard drive can be
damaged logically and physically.
The logically damaged drive is still
fixable and inner data is also recoverable. However, the physically damaged
drive is often irreparable and the contained data is also irrecoverable.
So, I hope your hard drive is only
logically damaged.
But, now, you can try to use a hard drive data recovery freeware
that can deeply scan your drive and do its utmost to restore your wanted data
back completely:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/02/hard-drive-recovery.html
Note: You should learn a lesson to back up all your important data at
least on two hard drives in the future.
I recently read an article on hard drive data recovery, from which I learn that deleted files are actually recoverable only if the deleted data are not overwritten, i.e. do not save data to the place where your deleted data once stayed. You might find a better understanding of how to recover data from hard drive if you read this article by yourself. Good luck!
All you need to do right now is stopping using the computer where you lost the files. In my opinion, you need some third-party data recovery software to help you. You should download the software from Another Computer. And copy it to a flash drive. This operation is to avoid overwriting your original computer.
Next step is to connect your flash drive to your original computer and run the data recovery software on it. In most cases, if you didn't put new files to the hard drive in which you lost data, you can get back most of your lost files, even they are months ago. If you did, the chance of recovering your lost files will reduce.
It is good to know that we can recover deleted files on our computer these days. We can also recover files using data recovery tool.
Try Kernel for FAT and NTFS, It performs fast and flawless data recovery to easily recover data in a short span of time. Free trial version can be downloaded free from http://www.windowsdatarecovery.com. But, its trial version does not save data. In order to save the data recovered, you need to purchase full version of Kernel for FAT and NTFS software.
Hi,
Sorry to hear of your difficulty. Usually in your kind of
situation data can easily be recovered using any data recovery
software. But my personal suggestion to you is to first try to run a demo version
first and if you see directory list of your lost data then only proceed with
the purchase.
Sometimes
when OS fail to install then file System of your hard drive can go corrupt
which can result to invalid disk error.
