If the notebook you are servicing has an unknown password, follow these steps to clear the password. These steps also clear CMOS:1. Prepare the notebook for disassembly (refer to Section 4.3, "Miscellaneous Plastics/ Hardware Kit," for more information).2. Remove the real-time clock (RTC) battery (refer toSection 6.24, "RTC Battery," for more information on removing and replacing the RTC battery).3. Wait approximately 5 minutes.4. Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the notebook.5. Connect AC power to the notebook. Do not reinsert any battery packs at this time.6. Turn on the notebook.All passwords and all CMOS settings have been cleared
If the BIOS password cannot be remembered, the unit will need to be sent in for password removal. This service is not covered under warranty and charges will apply to have the password removed.
Please go to Fix My Acer and set the unit up for service requesting BIOS password removal. In the description please use the following: "Requesting BIOSpassword removal".
Note: This is for the BIOS password only and does not include the Windows login password. Acer does not remove Windows login passwords.
