I have an Invacare Pronto M91 with the SPJ+ controller and it was doing the exact thing you describe. Easy to turn on, but very difficult or impossible to turn off. I replaced the keypad on the controller and now it works like a champ. Easy on-Easy off!! I believe the key bad buttons have graphite on them and then it wears off with time, causing the above issue. They can be ordered for about $32 from Monsterscooterparts.com

SOURCE: I have a invacare The joystick mk5 will not lite up batt. are new

Some chairs, like the M91 are a real bear to replace the batteries and connectors can get knocked loose in the process. First, using a voltmeter you need to see if the controller is getting power. On the DC setting, use voltmeter at the three-pin female connection at the joystick that is the charging port. The two pins that are opposite each other are the "hot" pins, and your meter should read about 25 volts, +- 2 volts. If its 0, there is a connection that isn't made from the batteries through to the controller, or the controller or joystick is shot. If you do have power to the joystick, then it's probable that the joystick is shot. A new one from Invacare is pricey, around $1,000.00 I have found a new site that can repair most makes. I have not used them, so cannot vouch for their work, but give them a call and see what you think.

If you don't have power, start at the terminals from the battery, and follow each wire back to the power control box, unplug and replug firmly as you work your way back. Check all fuses on the way. Then check all of the other connectors inside the chair, unplug, and reconnect again. Unplug and reconnect the wires leading into the power control box, and then restart chair. If no lights still, then the power control module is probably the culprit, but the address above fixes those too. The joystick and the power control module work together to make the chair operate safely. Good luck

The off and on switch won't turn off on mk5 spj. it turns on fine but have to unplug cord to turn off.

Harold, you need a new on off switch. You can open the case and solder in a replacement switch after finding a replacement. This is your least expensive option. You can also send it to be rebuilt at Monster Scooter Parts or to the Wheelchair Wizard in Sacramento. Hope this helps. Scott

Spj-80, model 1122190. Why doesn't it move?

you may have a current rollback problem you will need to charge the Chair for 14hrs. with the Joystick on! This will reset the circuit. Charge with the joystick on! It is okay it won't hurt a thing, in fact from now on always charge with the joystick on.

When i plug the cable into the joystick control (MK5SOJ+) all the lights around the horn button blink on and off motor wont engage and it won't shut off til pull out the cable do i need a

Hello,

When you say the power cable I hope you mean the cable that comes from the main control module under the chair. I want to make sure you are not talking about the AC power cable that plugs from the chair to a wall outlet. So if we are on the same page about the cable is the one going from the joystick to the main control module under the chair and all you do is plug it in and the green speed lights start to blink this would indicate the joystick is bad.

Pronto m91

You are getting a motor error code. Check motor wiring and connection to the main control box. Motor may have gotten unplugged when changing the batteries.

How do I adjust the seat height on a Pronto M51 with SPJ+ Joystick

The seat height can be adjusted by removing the seat and raising up the 4 seat pillars on the bottom frame. With the pivot seat model you can raise the center post seat pillar.
