Vibrations in 4th gear and TCC lock-up

Automatic tranny with 4-wheel drive. The SUV, in 2wd, is fine up through 3rd gear. At 4th gear (around 40mph, but as low as 35mph) the vehicle starts mildly vibrating. The faster I go, the worse it gets. I won't drive faster than 65 because at that speed it's really shaking the car. I've had the tires balanced, and been told it could be the U-joints. But it doesn't occur til 4th gear. RPM's don't affect it.

I have a 2001 Maxima GXE 3500 V6 Automatic w/ODthrowing codes P0744 P0505 and ABS light could something like the TCC solenoid be causing all 3 to

NISSAN , not the same at all, ARE different. ABS, idle and trans.
p07xx is transmission errors and told here by SM
505 IS IAC IDLE VALVE STUCK ERROR OR VACUUM LEAks
no IDLE RPM TOLD HOT. MATTERS HUGE.
https://eautorepair.net/Marketing/Default.asp

744 TCC IS THE TC LOCKUP SOLENOID WIRE FROM PCM TO TC.
THE TCM(PCM) SEES IT FAIL 2 WAYS.
DEAD, rpm OF TRANS (vss) FAILS TO DROP IN HI GEAR.
OR IS CAUSING LOW VSS READING STUCK ON.
744
  • Low transmission fluid level
  • Dirty transmission fluid
  • Faulty Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid Valve
  • Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve harness is open or shorted
  • Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve circuit poor electrical connection

ABS LAST IF BRAKES SEEM OK,
ABS CAN FAIL OF LOTS OF REASONS, AND YOU HAVE NO ABS SCAN TOOL AT ALL I BET.
GET THE ABS SCANNED FULLY THEN FIX IT. <<< do it now.

then you say 3rg gear is missing
well, did it jump 2 to 4th gear
or is 3rd gear FLARE, a false neutral.
the transmission needs to be fully checked out. for sure tranny line pressure (pump) ports in all PNDRL selections as the SM told you.

Why wont my transmission o/d work

no engine told. size, this tells what transmission sites behind it.
1999 Dodge RAM 1500????? not VAN. 1500
2wd or 4wd'/
5 engines. then.
check all fuses, some have stand alone TCM brain (tranny)
scan the PCM for P07xx error (tranny)
check ATF levels hot, park ,idle, only do not overfill it ever.
ATF+3 (not sure but do check)
they used 3 transmission then
4-speed 42RH-RE automatic
4-speed 46RH-RE automatic
4-speed 47RH-RE automatic

42RE , is electronic shifted,
OD gear is dead or just the TCC lockup deaD
best is count the gears more carefully to see truth.
yes 4th gear is OD Geared. 3rd gear is 1:1 lockup.
.74-to-1 for first, 1.54-to-1 for second, direct 1.00-to-1 for third and 0.69-to-1 for fourth.(OD)
scab the PCM
to see if errors from the transmission show up.
I bet they do.
the 3>4 shift solenoid must work, .and no pressure errors.
the schematics show an OD switch if not closed OD does not happen, forget about that switch>
if car is 4wd and is in 4wd, many cars/ and truck all shut off
OD in 4wd, by logic inside the PCM (pure) my not be true on the biggest engine not told.

What is a good rpm ratio for a '95 toyota t100 running around 70MPH

2wd right?(1995 is GEN1, T100)
auto trans or manual trans no told and both are told.
we can't guess drivelines blind,so tell it.?
2.7L, 3.0L and 3.4L engine options new.
toss coin land on A/T box. (most common )
the TCM decides all this not you,
the Tcm/Pcm/or TCU are all transmission brains , the PCM does engine too, and tells the TCM speed, and engine loads (hills etc)
rpm based on all that and gear ratio, in the transmission, 1:1 or overdrive. too and the axle ratio and tire size (circumference)
are tires stock, or low rider tiny.???????
5 speed manual or 4speed automatic and 4 engine choices not one told and if an automatic the TCM is turned to all things stated above.
a hard fact that. the RPM drips in OD ,overdrive and TCC lockup
the service manual lists 5 transmissions
A340F, A340H, A440, A442F and A343F units
top 2 are A340e & A340f (USA answers me) 2wd/4wd

A340F (30-40LE) 4speeds + tcc

seen too on
2000-2004 Tundra (4x2)
A = Aisin-Warner Automatic.
340 generation 3. 3L v6 used.
E=electronic shifted (TCM brain
F= 4wd same as E shifted.
3 electrically controlled solenoids for shifting and torque converter(TC) lock up(TCU runs the SHOW)

There is s TV cable here too, that causes upshifts late or early.
super hard top find this, Asian boxes. but here goes.
?1st: 2.80
?2nd: 1.53
?3rd: 1.00 (end to end lockup , look ma' NO gears here !)
?4th: 0.75 (23-spline, 0.705 21-spline
4th gear cam be less on smallest engine.(less rpm drop)
now you learn vast version of transmissions exits.
I read the side of box and it tells me the model there fully, every time.

so are you not getting 4th gear OD or the TC lockup failing
scan the PCM see if there are P07xx errors"? tranny errors. ?

in 3rd gear the RPM is the axle ratio and tire diameter (pi X r squared is circum and distance moved is that)

I can tell you the math below see the online calc. at end here.
and some TC slip. (it slips not locked up)
4 gear is RPM ,= is 0.75 x 3rd gear RPM. and tc slip.
TCC lock up is is less RPM but that depend slip and hills.
that is why I call them slush pumps, TC SLIPS and turns HP in to wasted heat and is why TCC was mandated by the EPA, for more MPG, and less waste.
that is how the pump slips as they say.

why not just see if all gears work (count them with easy right foot on flat earth)
and TCC locks up, in 4th
and scan the PCm for errors.
1,2,3,4+TCC is really like 5th speed, if you noodle that.
4-1/2" gear,(5th) locked.
make sure TV cable not rusted and jammed up and for SURE not jammed in the Pulled out position, rusted, there. and is WOT
wot is wide open throttle and that make the tranny shift way late
or never goes past 3 gear... test it.(or worse 2nd)
I see folks put a new transmission $2500 for the want of $20 cable.
wow. that. The TV cable bad is an on car fix.
P0750 to P0770 are all tcc errors to the box. scan it if gears ever shift wrong. and speed sensors failing or clutch packs slipping in the box, will dtc code out too.

so in 3rd gear the axle 3.4L auto T100 4x4 should have 4.30 gears.
so 1:1 x 4.3 is still 4.3 so 3000 rpm the read prop shaft.spins

at 3000 rpm and axles spin 698 RPM( AND TAD LESS TC SLIPS.)
knowing tire circumstance or diameter. nets speed.
manual trans runs 4.10 axles. (and no slip at all)
if not running stock tires the SPEEDO lies to you.
taller large tires spin slower and VSS lies. to cluster.
called ticket getter
235/75R15 (stock'ish)
Diameter : 28.9"

here is 4.3 axles.
3rd gear, 60mph , axle above 28.9" stock tires
is 3000 RPM
so shift to 4th, be on flat ground and light right foot and not hills]
and TV cable not JAMMED (rusted and locked out)
https://purperformance.com/p-29669-rpm-calculator.html

so 4th OD is, what .75 x 3000 is 2250 RPM (my guess never seen)
TCC locked up ,is less RPM, a bit.

so learn to scan any TCM(PCM) when gears fails.
scan it. now.

Its 2 wheel drive, but the transmission won't shift unless you manuallyl put the gear shifter in low then work your way up to get the gears to change. The gears work fine it just won't change on its on. If...

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under-hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Good luck and keep me posted, there are other things but these things mentioned seam like what you described.

4L 60E - 2001 k1500 will not shift into 3-4. Oil is not burn't and stifts great into1-2

  • No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.
  • Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.

My 2002 trailblazer is making a noise when I go over 45 mph and appears to not be going in gear quickly at that speed

Check your transmission fluid level and/or have the fluid changed. If problem persist have a transmission professional at a dealership or transmission shop service it.

Transmission with codes P0218 P0732 P0733 P0740 P0846 P1790

I agree, this is a lot of codes. I would tend to think this would be electrical, perhaps computer are a loose connection? These trannys I have rebuilt so far usually have a couple of codes related to the problem but not this many - all over the place.

Transmision

That is a lot of miles on the tranny. Being a Ford it probably has the E4OD tranny. The E4OD has several clutch packs in side. Sounds as though your direct drive clutch pack has gone out. Also the torque converter has a lock up mechanisim in side which may have given up the ghost . This tranny has improved over the years from the origional version. But, this tranny needs frequent service if towing a heavy trailer. Once the fluid gets burned it needs to be changed immediately or problems will result if you let it go and try to change later. Just to purchase a rebuilt if it is a E4OD will be around $3400.00. If you want to rebuild it the parts cost for just a basic kit will be around $900.00 to do it correctly. There are many hard parts to check for tolerances internally. By hard parts I am referring to sun and planetary gears and what not. I hope this has helped. I have rebuilt many Ford trannys over the years and the E4OD can be problematic at times. The newer versions are more reliable.
