In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Reasons a Thumb Drive Won't Work

Depending on the degree of malfunction, fixing a thumb drive might not be feasible. Viruses

Thumb drives are capable of getting viruses.
A program or a corrupt file can be placed on the drive that will freeze the drive, delete files or infect any computer you place the drive into.

A simple virus scan of the drive is probably all you need to fix this problem.
Usage

Over time, continuous use of the drive will wear out the USB portion of the thumb drive.
The metal contacts will eventually wear until USB ports can't read the drive.

Clean the contacts periodically with rubbing alcohol to give the drive longevity.

Loose Pieces
Because most people keep their thumb drives on a key chain or in their pockets, it's possible the insides can loosen.

This is one reason a thumb drive won't work, and there's not much you can do except to use protective cases.
Moisture

Moisture can ruin a circuit board quickly.
Rain, condensation and sweat can short a thumb drive quickly.

Keep the Flash drive away from liquids and use a protective cover if you keep it in your pocket because the heat can create condensation.
Heat

Heat is another factor that can ruin electronics.
Anytime a circuit board gets too hot to operate, it overheats and malfunctions.

Data can be lost and the thumb drive might become unusable if it is kept in the heat too long.

How to remove write protection from kingston usb drive

From the Kingston website:
DT101G2 - DataTraveler 101 G2 FAQ

Is there any security or write protection feature available for this DataTraveler? Unfortunately this unit does not have any security or write protection feature. If you receive a write protection message with this drive, check for the following:

  1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.
  2. Make sure you have not enabled write protection on the drive by using a third party software.
  3. If none of the above apply, the drive may be defective. Contact Kingston Technical Support for further assistance.

Write protection

some kingston drivers have mechanical protection, little slider on the side with symbol of open/close pedlock. this one have problem on your computer...

follow these steps:
1. insert drive into usb port
2. open "my computer"/"computer"
3. click right mouse button on kingston drive
4. left mouse button on "properties"
5, remove tick from button "write protect"
6. save and exit

this should solve your problem, i fnot, then download this driver and try again:

http://driverwhiz.com/drivers-en?brand=Kingston%20USB&logo=Kingston&subid=1002-au-en-90000000464&gclid=CJma3tKkmKMCFQ0dewodgjcRqQ

ther eis emote possibility that driver is infected with malware or virus protecting it from access, best way then is running antivirus on it and then format it.

if you find this advice helpful, please do not hesitate to leave your remarks and vote 4 for me, thanx!

is there a small switch on the side of the drive, which can be moved. its basically for write protection.

Otherwise its a problem with drive, and you need to format it. If that is not working then your drive has got corrupted and needs a replacement.
