Did you choose a security question? (helps recover password)
OR Try This (taken from another forum)
"Try this Although there's no real way to recover a lost root password, you can change the root password even if you do not know the current one. You must have physical access to the machine in order to accomplish this task.
Click Restart at the login window While the computer is restarting, hold down "Command-S" until you see text scrolling through the window. This boots the computer into single user mode.
At the Localhost% prompt type: /sbin/mount -uw //sbin/SystemStarter
You will then see various services starting up.
When the Localhost% prompt reappears, type: passwd root
It will then ask you to type the new root password twice, so do so.
After entering the new password, type: reboot
At the login window, enter username root wih the new password.
Once you are connected, you can use the Multiple Users application (/Applications/Utilities) to change your normal user's password, or create a new user account."
My Gmini XS202s did this twice both time cause the battery went flat while moving files across (I should always charge device while connecting to PC)
First time I reformatted device as FAT32 using fdisk (Windows formatting tool should do same)
Then downloaded latest AOS and copied to root directory. [get AOS from http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=gb&lang=en]
second time I ran mkdosfs /media/disk (disk was mount point for gmini). This seemed to fix the device and I lost about 20 files. but better than reformat.
If the drive is mounted on your desktop single click on the drive icon. Press option 'i' keys to get the info about the drive.
The permissions will be listed in the window. As administrator you should be able to unlock the drive and change the permissions from here or if you have admin rights as the user you should be able to do the same.
If for some reason you are unable to do this you might have to reformat the drive. In this case copy the files you need on the drive off onto you mac and reformat the drive with the apple utility. You might have to change the permission on the files you take off the drive. You do the same thing as with the drive.
