When Norton is active it scans the computer for viruses and this will slow the computer down until it finishes.
You computer will improve with more RAM especially if has 512Mb of RAM.

Symatech antivirus cpu usage is very high if your system is not a high configuration it makes slow.
the newer versions of nortorn antivirus are good and fast like nortorn antivirus 2010 so try latest version by removing old. or try avast anivirus which is very fast and working very good.

Make sure the driver for the notebook from the manufacturers website is installed, and not the video driver from Microsoft's Windows Update. After that, update Java, Adobe Flash and Adobe Shockwave. Finally, check for updates for DirectX (version 9.0C). Post back your results, please.

Did you download it illegally? Regardless, Norton sucks and you need to get rid of it. Most likely The firewall in Norton is blocking access from the program on your computer. Open Norton and Find the Firewall settings (i havent used norton in many years so i forgot where it is; Possibly udner configure or settings or something). Allow access to the program through the firewall and if you bought it then allow full internet access to it as well. Hope that helps :)

avg is fast with the computer others will really slow your computer down if that don't worry you go with norton anti virus the best out there to date

don't use norton 360, it will only slowing down your pc if your computer not powerful enough.
Thus, norton not really a good antivirus.

bitdefender total security is good enough for you. It has a option called game mode that won't slowing down your pc

go to google.com and input in the search bar: norton removal tool

download and run the tool and then restart and install new version.

Are you logged into a Windows profile w/ Administrator privileges?

If not, change your user profile rights to Administrator (from another Administrator profile).

If the problem persists, enter Safe Mode and try enabling and disabling NAV (Norton Antivirus) from there.

If the problem still persists, you may have picked up a virus that disabled your AV software. You can go HERE if you like to perform an online AV scan. There are other sites as well that will do this for you. Just perform a search engine search on "Online AV Scan".
