Sharp Carousel Microwave R-1460A no power, door switch went first

Sharp Carousel Microwave R-1460A was having problems when shut, it would seem to "run" (no turn table movement) until you wiggled the door it would stop, as if it was not aligning correctly. After a few weeks of that,I was heating coffee and heard a pop like a fuse. Now there is now power to the unit, no lights, nothing. The outlet works fine with other appliances. Can I somehow just replace an inexpensive fuse and/or door switch, or do I need a new oven? Is this safe to run with the switch like this or is it leaking radiation? Thanks.

I have the same problem with my Sharp  R-1460 microwave. I am pretty sure it is the door switch because when I push on the door, I cane get the unit to work. I now need to decide if is worth replacing the door switch of just getting a new (and better) oven. BGS

Where is the fuse located on this unit as mine has stopped working all together even though the outlet is good.

You will want to replace the fuse and door switches. You will not be able to run it without replacing door switches. You do not need a new microwave. Door switches go bad, it has nothing to do with radiation.

How can we fix the door of our Sharp Carousel Convection Microwave Oven Model R-9X56?

This appears to be an Australian model and these are the only spares I can find. They do sell the latches. If the hinges are damaged and causing this, you will feel movement. Looks like it is time for a new one.

I just had an appliance repair man check my Sharp R-1870 microwave for the 59 second shut off problem. He said it was the main circuit board. Has anyone run into this problem. Everything I google says...

I've had a similar problem with a 1983 Sharp Carousel microwave. It turned out to be a faulty door micro switch, the contact didn't stay closed inside it for very long.

Sharp carousel microwave convection oven keeps blowing fuse

The service manual is here:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/r820bc_bk_bw_sm.pdf

You can get Sharp parts from Encompass here.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.
See http://www.microtechfactoryservice.com/cap_test.html

If it went dead several seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.
See: http://www.microtechfactoryservice.com/xformer.html

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

I have a Haier microwave and tonight after heating some food, I went to close the door and upon closing it, the carousel started turning and it won't shut off.

It sounds like one of the door switches has become defective, each must be disconnected on the one side and tested with a digital meter using the ohms scale.

I have the Sharp R-1440 carousel microwave oven and it won't shut off when I close the door. Do you know how old this oven might be? Model R-1440; Serial 123662

Check and change door interlock switches or check for condensation problem on control panel, (internal).
Hope that helps.

When I shut my microwave door, the light staays on and the carousel starts going around. I can program my cooking time but, it will not engage and star cooking. Meanwhile, the carousel continues to go...

It's probably a bad door switch or door switch mount, probably the top one, which is the door sensing switch.

We have the actual service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site for you here.

You can order Sharp parts from
Encompass here or from the Sears Parts Direct Web site.

My Sharp over the range microwave oven model R-1460A shut off. Cannot power it on. Checked outlet, works fine.

Itmay be the fuse, which is usually located behind the grille or on thefloor of the oven behind the control panel or between the door switches.

Ifthe fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO)/ thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / bodyof the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cookingthen comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causingthe magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

Ifit goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or closethe door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switchmount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a badconnection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, oreven an intermittent fuse.

While we don't have that exact manual, we do have a similar service manual here which should be close enough to help you or someone you know troubleshoot these basics.

Once you know what's wrong, the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.
