There are 2 stepper motors, in this machine. One is for the embroidery arm (the one you attach the embroidery frame to), and the other is inside the top (under the cover/which is under the spool holder) for the side-to-side/front-to-back motion of the needle (during embroidery stitches). If these get ANY debris/lint in them, they cannot return to the correct point, so the machine (sensing this) stops you, as incorrect positioning could break your machine. I have had my son clean 2 of these, so far, and then they have worked fine. The shops tend to want you to dump the machine, or pay for a complete new part, when my experience is that you just need someone, who is mechanically minded, to open it up, and carefully clean it.

If it really is your motor overheating, you either need it serviced, or replaced, possibly with another machine which is more suited to the type of sewing you do.

Model mc9000. Needle moves manually. Why not automatically when machine started?

Do you mean that the needle goes up and down when you turn the hand wheel but not when you step on the pedal? In that case, your machine needs a new motor belt. I've seen some of these listed at E-bay. The service manual is available from ManualsLib, https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1075981/Janome-Memory-Craft-9000.html#manual . To remove the belt unit cover, see https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1075981/Janome-Memory-Craft-9000.html?page=4 . The belt is shown here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1075981/Janome-Memory-Craft-9000.html?page=18#manual .

Warning: since this is a computerized sewing machine, you should have the service done by a sewing machine repair person. There are parts of the machine that may still be energized and touching the wrong spot could damage the machine. If you are skilled with this type of work, you can ignore the warning.

I hope this helps.

Step Motor Error...what does that mean

The stepper motor or motors control the needle position. If one is reporting an error that just unplugging the machine and leaving it off for 15 minutes won't fix, it's time for a repair shop.

Memory craft 5200 showing error 3

If your user manual doesn't tell you, and your dealer doesn't know,
you can go to the Janome website, go to tech support , and they can answer your question.
DO NOT use your machine until you get the error corrected.

My Janome memory craft 8000 will only sew backwards and the screen shows step motor error. the machine is 19 years old. Is this fixable?

step motor error may mean the embroidery arm is out of position gently push it back home towards the machine and see if this helps. If the mother board is gone, they will not be able to replace it as its so old, but you may be able to get an 8000 or 9000 on ebayso you can still use your discs if you don't want to get a new machine

JANOME MEMORYCRAFT 8000 STEPPING MOTOR ERROR

if you ever have this problem, it is because you have had something in the way of the embroidery arm at the back of the machine, so it has not been able to move freely; you'll get a terrible noise as the machine is unable to do what it wants, slips gears or something and then can't bring the arm to its home position. But fear not, i have found if you turn the machine off and gently push the arm back home to touch the machine as it is the start position, when you turn it on, it will work fine and no harm done. just make sure the arm can move freely before you start embroidery!
