I forgot to mention, you will hear an very audible HISS or what sounds like static through your speakers (even when unit is paused).  Leave the unit on pause and turn up the volume and you will start to hear popping or clicking.  The screen may jam when opening and closing too, AND believe it or not it will try to open early when flipping and break the vanity ring around the unit.  I have installed 4 of these now, and guess what?  The FOURTH and final one is starting the SAME THING, and this is an upgraded model I am using which is supposed to fix all the issues.  Power Acoustik dropped the ball on these units and you should avoid them.

Installing a ptid-8960 power acoustik into my new 2011 mazda 3 what wires should connect or can i even install it without getting the wire harness adapter to make it like the same connections not quite...

You absolutely should use a wire harness for this installation. Not using one would require you to clip the wires to factory radio connector, making re-installation of the factory stereo nearly impossible. Even worse, you would have to wire the connector that came with your PTID-8960 deck to the clipped ends. This task would be nearly impossible, as the factory wiring is too short to extend out of the dashboard where you can work with it easily.

Save yourself the trouble.

I tried finding the exact item you will need, but it seems the Mazda 3 comes with stereo options that could affect which wire harness you'd require.

Here is a link to Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120707904/Mazda-Receiver-Wire-Harness.html?tp=2977&tab=other_items

You can use their site to select your car and installed options, and they will return products compatible with your vehicle.

Speakers are thumping and cracking when powered up...why?

you are better off setting your deck speakers amp to a high pass filter setting on the amp. Adjust gains to increase desired bass and clarity. Turn off loud button if you have one, that will distort your deck speakers.

Power Acoustik PTID-8960

You can Actually get a Single to Double RCA Splitter for this. I think that Wal-Mart Used to Carry them. If not, Any Stereo Install shop has these and will sell them to you. You Might Try Best Buy also. Their Car Audio Install Guys may have one to sell to you.

Have one wire for audio sub out, but two input ports to amp

This one Wire should be for the +. Try connecting the + to the Head Unit and - to a Common Ground. At the Worst, You will Blow the Amp Fuse if not Correct. The Lead from the Head Unit is Only an Off and On from the Ignition. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
