My Janome 415 is playing up and wont allow me to sew

Every time i thread the machine it knots on the inside and when it doesn't the moment i start sewing it knots. While this is happening the foot will not allow the fabric to move and it is a walking foot. Is there a way of fixing this myself or will I have to go to a specialist?

Did you lower the feed dogs some how? Check the front and back of the machine near the sewing area. Look for a slide switch. It may even be under the part you remove to make it a free arm. (might look in the manual for where yours is specifically.

Another thing. You should always grasp and hold the thread ends when you begin a seam. That just good practice for ANY sewist.

SOURCE: threading a sewing machine

What do you mean you are unable to pull the bobbin thread through, elaboration would help solve the problem...
I suspect I'm having the same problem with you if it's anything to do with the top thread looping around in the bobbin holder.

Damn machine!

SOURCE: Upper thread knots up with bobbin thread when sewing a stich

Thread test
Test your thread quality to start, thread your machine and LIFT the presser foot (this opens the tension disks). Pull your top thread straight back. If you feel no tension no mater how much thread you pull, your thread is good. If that your machine passes that test, then let me know, we can go to step 2. If not, try different spool of thread, same test until you get a smooth pull (tip: always check your thread this way when you thread your machine)
Step 2:
Pull on your threaded bobbin thread while it’s in the machine. Does it pull smooth and even? If so, go to step 3. If not, try a new bobbin (bobbins get bent or distorted if wound too tight).
Clean thoroughly in the hook and bobbin case area and oil 1-2 drop is all.
Thread knotting on the bobbin can be a lot of things but here's some guidance:
Tension:
If the thread is loose on the bottom of the fabric, it's actually the top thread is too loose. Think of 2 little elves playing tug of war in your machine, one on toip and one underneath. If you have loops on bottom, the top needs to pull harder (tighten top tension)
Jamming bobbin case:
If it is damaged from turning out of place once, it could have rough spots on it that makes the thread hang on it, and keeps making it turn over and over. Use a finger nail board (fine sanding) and smoothall rough spots. Then reset the bobbin case taking care to put the notch in the bobbin case in alignment with the proper spot in the machine (basically 5 o’clock) when looking at the round area where the bobbin case goes.

SOURCE: singer 5525 sewing machine knots

You can go here, search 5525, and download or purchase an instruction manual for your machine, if you have misplaced the one that came with it. It looks like there are some available as downloadable pdfs for free and some physical ones for $15. https://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

Also, Singer has just installed new Q&A features on their website. You can go here: http://new.singerco.com/products and look for your particular model or machine category. At the bottom of the product page, you can post Questions for singer experts and other community members to answer!

Good luck!

My top thread frays and then breaks while I am quilting with my 1600p dbx.

change to a new needle
check to make sure thread has no knots or even change the thread spool
check the top thread tension it sound like it's to tight
check the needle plate for burrs
check around the tension knob for loose pieces of thread or lint
use a can of air that you'd use on a computer keyboard on the tension knob & if you don't have the can of air use unwaxed dental floss but make sure to write down the setting it was on before cleaning.
& also under the needle plate area in case there is loose threads or lint & also the bobbin area

This machine came with a very limited Manuel. The bobbin thread is knotting up and not catching as it should. I've re threaded several times removed and reinserted the bobbin, but can't seem to find the...

Check the bobbin tension and that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

Thread is knotting up on bottom of fabric causing it to stop

1.check the needle & see if it's bent--if so replace
2.lay the needle on a flat surface & roll the needle over if it doesn't roll true replace
3.check for blunt needle-if needle makes a popping sound when needle penetrates fabric
4.needle is not all way up in holder
on my mechanical sewing machine sometimes the threads come off the take up lever, that causes the thread to bunch up under something I'm working on
also check thread in bobbin
