Shortly after this happened to me, the whole faceplate stopped lighting up. Then all buttons but the power button worked. From what I'm seeing I feel that this is from bad capacitor, but I don't have the time to rip it apart right now. Till then, it's a cheap Alpine MP3 player.

i had the same problem i just put a switch between the hand brake and the cable from the indash

is a little bit expense or you can try at ebay

the orange ribbon that you can see on the outside part of the unit is ripped or cut.
