If the oil is on the outside of the spark plugs, you could have leaking valve cover seals or gaskets.

SOURCE: spark plug replacement

Plugs are under the coil pack. The black rectangle on top of the valve cover. Remove the plug on the drivers side, and remove the 4, 10mm bolts. Lift up the coil straight up. Will be fairly tough, and your plug wells are in there.

SOURCE: cant locate the oil filter or drain plug

the filter should be a cartridge type located underneath the enginecover plastic.it is usually on the right side of engine bay near the front of car.It will have a black plastic hex on the housing it is 1"and a quarter big and probably has a torque spec written on it something like 18 n-m or something.Hope it helps.

SOURCE: eng. shakes spits/sputters oil in spark plugs

I just had this fixed on my suby today. The cause is that the spark plugs, go through the valve covers on the 2.5 l .When the o rings in the cover go, the result is oil in the spark plugs. The cost of the repair in Canada was about $500 including diagnostics as well as new plugs and wires About 1.5 hours labor and new seals and gaskets. It now runs like new. This is a common problem for this subaru engine as well as for the dodge neon.

Saturn ion 2 2.2L ecotech code p0303, i have already replace the icm and the coil and the spark plug

this obd2 trouble code table can help you understand the meaning of code.
for p0303, you can try this:

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

I need to change the spark plugs in my 2005 ion, any help would be great.

The spark plugs are in the center on the top of the engine. You will need to twist the plug wire as you pull it to get it off. then yhou will need a long extension for the plug socket with a rubber insert to hold the plug. Make sure to mark the wires so they get put back on the same plug.

Have a 03 ion went thru high water it died towed home home took out sparck plugs crancked water shot out oiled cly cleaned plugs drying out air filter still wont start any answeres

Drain all the oil and put on new clean, also repl the oil filter.
Your coil pack may also still be wet-- , mark your spark plug wires and the coils and remove them. Make sure the coils are dry the spark pulg wires ends are dry. Also the plug or the main harness to the coil pac may be wet still, pull the plug and dry that, use an old hair drier or just let it sit a day longer.

I need to know if i need to change spark plugs

Depends. How many miles are on the car? Is it idling or running rough? Are you getting poor gas mileage? Is your check engine light on? If so, take it to Autozone and ask them to plug their code reader into your car. They can tell you if you've got a mis-fire. If you do, then sure, go ahead and change the plugs. Make sure you gap them to the correct specification and torque to the correct spec.

You could also take one of the plugs out and look at the tip. If it has a light-brown color to it and isn't covered in oil or looks burnt or black, then that plug is fine.

2005 saturn ion?

The spark plugs are recessed in the valve cover. If you remove the spark plug wires and look down in the hole that the wires came from, the plugs will be in there.

There is oil on theads of spark plugs on 2005

The oil seal for the spark plugs may need replacing. This requires a little work. You need to take out the cover of the head. Normally you should see the seals underneath the cover just surrounding the holes.
