Multiple connections to Yamaha V463

I have AT&T Uverse in one of the HDMI connections. I am going to get a Blue Ray to connect to other HDMI input. Since there is only one HDMI output to the TV, how does the Reciever know to play the Blue instead of the Uverse? Does it detect the Blue Ray signal on?
Also, I would like to know in the mean time I have a regular DVD player, which connection would be better? S-Video or Component RCA plugs?

Each HDMI port has its own source, such as DVD, Radio, etc. When you switch sources on the receiver, it sends the appropriate signal to the television. If I'm not mistaken, the 463 is only a pass through unit not a converting one so it you hooked up your DVD player through the S Video or Component it may not send the signal to your television through the HDMI, since it takes a converter to change the source from Analog to Digital. May be wrong on the unit though.

Component is better than S-Video. Also, use a fiber optic cable for sound from your DVD player if it has one. This setup will be the closest to HDMI, some argue better.

Has Direct tv STB HDMI output?
Best is to connect all your sources (BD, DVD, STB, PS3) to yamaha receiver and connect yamaha hdmi-out to TV's HDMI-in.

I need to hook up a yamaha 465 receiver

It has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI monitor output for the TV, so assuming all your devices are HDMI-capable, YES.

When connecting hdmi out from my panasonic blue-ray player to the dvd input in my yamaha rx-v365 there is not audio or video, why?

There are several video and audio inputs named DVD. For video you have HDMI, component and composite. For audio you have standard analog stereo and digital coaxial spdif input.
You need to configure the receiver to use the correct inputs - that means HDMI and coax. Also you need to connect the BD player via coax spdif cable to the receiver, because rx-v365 doesn't support audio via HDMI. If BD player has only optical output, use DTV/CABL HDMI input and DTv/CABL Optical input on the receiver.

With Cable connected to the rx-465 input, I'm not getting HDMI output to a Samsung plasma TV. With DVD HDMI input I get HDMI output to the TV. Any suggestions on what I'm missing. Thanks, Greg

is the cable connection hdmi? is the unit capable of upconversion to hdmi, if you use a component connection? probably not. if it is capable of upconversion, check your input menu settings

Just purchased Yamaha RX-V465 and need to assign hdmi out puts and can't seem to figure it out. I have connected the cables according to a diagram. My items are Pioneer Elite Flat Screen and a Samsung Blue...

Had to download the manual for this one since i didn't work with that particular model yet, but should be able to help anyway. Ok so on the back of the Yamaha unit you have a total of 5 HDMI plugs. The first on the left is the receiver's output which is supposed to go to the Pioneer flat screen in the Input HDMI plug. The 4 other HDMI plugs on the yamaha receiver are the 4 inputs, so plug in the Blue Ray reader into the second HDMI plug from the left which reads (BD/DVD) HDMI1. Now everything is plugged in the right way, so if you already did plug it all up like that, you were OK so far. All that is left now is to first of all put the Pioneer flat screen on the right input (You can do that with the remote of the TV, or if i'm not mistaken, there is an input selector on the back of your Pioneer flat screen TV). When that is done you just need to put the receiver to the right input also, to do so, either with the remote again, or on the front of the yamaha receiver unit. In both case, the button you need is the Input button, press it untill the receiver says HDMI 1 on the LCD display. And now you're done, all you need to do is to turn on the Blue Ray, put a movie in and enjoy.:) If it does not work, either the receiver or the flat screen are defective and should be returned for waranty.

The Yamaha RX-V463 AV does not playsound from the blue ray player

"I am also having difficulties in try to display the yamaha set up menu on the tv."
According to the manual the display menu for TV will not work with HDMI hook up.
I also have a Panasonic HD TV and can't get TV sound through my Yamaha AVR on "TV Sound" mode.  Trying to use HDMI cable for this also.  Do I need a digital optical cable or do I not have something set right?

Hookup diagram for Yamaha avr-863 receiver

It's the other way around.

Hook up the Cable box to the Amp; and the blu-ray to the amp, then connect amp to LCD.

you want to use the best available options for audio:
HDMI > Digital Optical > Digital Coax > standard RCA

And the similar for video:
HDMI > Component > SVideo > RCA cables

I would connect Blu-Ray via HDMI to Amp, and Cable box via HDMI to Amp. If your cable box does NOT support HDMI, but you have an HD package, ask your cable company for an upgraded box.

Yamaha RX-V463 and LG DTV

I solve this problem by using an optical cable.
The only OUT socket from the TV was this one so i connected the optical cable to the optical input in my amp and it's ok now.
If your TV has another type of Out socket (HDMI OUT e.g) i think you can use it as well
