Sony av STR-DG510 receiver won't power up. Makes clicking sound when using power button or remote.

High volume use caused unit to go down. No display lights, but only clicking sound while using power buttons.

SOURCE: STR-DH700 won't power up unless I unplug-plug it.

This is a logic problem with the internal microprocessor. A quick experiment: Turn the unit on for about 2 minutes and shut it down. Doe sit power uip in this case? If so, I'd suspect that the heat generated during normal operation is creating an internal problem thaty is preventing the micro from recognizing the "off" condition. The power data line is hung and is not being recognizwed by the micro so any attempt to turn the unit on will fail. The unplug/re-plug essentially clears or resets the unit.

If the unit is new, return it for warranty repair. It will be important to describe when the unit fails however. Try to see how long it must remain on for the problem to occur.

Update this with your results if the unit is not under warranty and we'll try to narrow it down.

Thanks,
Dan

SOURCE: Sony STR-DG510 hook up with BDP-S560 no sound

The Sony manual for this receiver is not wrong, it is just a little misleading.
It does in fact use HDMI but ONLY for the HIGH DEFINITION video portion of the signal, as output from the receiver to your television. High Definition Multimedia interface carries both audio and video, however, your receiver is not decoding the high definition AUDIO portion of it and passing it through the HDMI, nor is it passing any form of multichannel audio through HDMI. So you can see why the receiver is no longer available for sale from the Sony website. The HDMI connection on your receiver is redundant unless you are not using a multichannel audio format, in which case you would be using either the TV speakers or connect an additional audio cable from the TV's "audio out" back into the receiver for external speakers.
All that should be done is use the HDMI cable from your blu-ray player connected directly to your TV. That will give you your picture, and possibly a better one since the receiver will no longer be in the signal path.
Then connect either a coaxial or optical cable from the blu ray player to the receiver for your audio. You will then be able to have Dolby Digital and DTS surround formats.
Your service person was wrong.

Testimonial: "Thank you excellent report spot on with the hook-up. Will buy new receiver. John McMullan."

SOURCE: powers up, all lights buttons seem to work, but no sound

This can happen. Lightening causes static charge that can be picked up by speaker wires. It is possible ONE of the amplifiers has failed.
To check, have the room quiet. Turn on the amp. After 5 to 10 seconds there should be a nice solid 'CLICK' from inside the amp. If there is no click, the unit is in safety mode. You will need a service shop.

It just won't turn on, it won't show anything on the screen , it just makes a clicking sound when i press the power button.

The clicking sound is a bad power inverter. I have seen this several times. The power inverter aka power supply, power converter. If you can get a voltmeter then you can test it. See how much is going from the power inverter to the main circuit board. Another possible cause would be a faulty self-protection circuit that these have to keep from the system overloading it goes into protect mode when there is to much volume frequency.

My Sony STR-DG500 wont turn on just clicks once and nothing.

Sounds like faulty psu (pwer suply unit) Amp is going into protection mode. Disconnected all speaker and av wires (only power) turn up volume and see if it stays on. If not psu, sounboard or volume function faulty. If on, connect one speaker L or R. Go to tuner mode to tuned radio station an listen for sounds. If on, connect speakers and av cables one by one and test each one on its own until amp switches off, Investigate from there were problem is. Make sure speakerwires is not shorting out.

Programming my DishNet remote for my Sony AV System

Hi, the manual for the vip622 (the model I have... not sure what you have) says to use the following codes for Sony Tuners / Amplifiers.

See Chapter 10 here:

for instructions on how to program the AUX setting on your remote and how to set your remote to adjust the receiver volume while controlling the Dish receiver.
