Would like to know how to adjust the timing on my brother se270d. where to start and do I need to take the machine apart?

I have seen this post before, perhaps the easiest thing for you to do now, after so long, is to just ring or email Brother or one of their dealers direct.
I do know that Janome recommend no more than 256MB CF card to reduce the need for searching through vast amounts of patterns.

I dropped my feed dogs and when I pushed the button to bring them back up, it wouldn't work. I did discover that when you put the button back to the up position and start sewing, the dogs come back up automatically.

Your needle thread lock on the bottom of your fabric and your bobbin thread locks on top. If you are getting jamming in the bobbin it is caused by the needle thread. Thread your machine with the presser foot up this will ensure thread going between tension disks.
