SOURCE: UP RIGHT FRIGIDAIRE FREEZER AUTO DEFROST 11CF I THINK

This could be normal for the summer. This is the right temp to keep it at. Some units are meant to run 80 - 90 % of the time. Turn it all the way up and check the temp. Most units when working properly can get below 0. Check the condensor underneath for dirt and to see if the fan is running under there. (smaller units don't have anything underneath) Some have coils in the rear and the smallest units just use the sides of the cabinet to disperse the heat. Check the gasket see if its sealing properly or maybe the door is warped and not closing at the bottom.

SOURCE: Running continuously

Hello bxrjer,
Welcome,

You said, you have a FFU20FC6AW2 freezer that I have noticed is running continuously. Explains my $400 electric bill.

How old is the freezer?

The thermostat may be faulty.
But check out this list first.

If the black tubes running back and forth that carry the freon is under the freezer and behind the plastic grill down near the floor you may want to remove the grill cover and gently run a refrigerator brush across the coils. Ive seen them never cleaned and full of lint and dust 2 inches thick.
This is not good for the freezer or any refrigerator too!
They need to be clean so air can run across them or they over heat and get hot.
Room or outside weather is hot. It is normal for the freezer to work harder under these
conditions.

Reasons why Freezer may run too much or too long.

1.Freezer had recently been disconnected for a period of time. Freezer requires 4 hours to cool
down completely.
2.Large amounts of warm or hot food have been stored recently. Warm food will cause the
freezer to run more until the desired temperature is reached.
3.Door is kept open too long or too frequently. Warm air enters the freezer every time the door
is opened. Open the door less often.

4.Freezer door may be slightly open. (Freezer is not level. It rocks on the floor when it is moved slightly. This condition can force the cabinet out of square and misaligned the door.Freezer needs to be leveled if this occurs.
Floor is uneven or weak. Freezer rocks on the floor when it is moved slightly. Level the floor by using metal or wood shims under the freezer or brace floor supporting the freezer.

5.Temperature control is set too cold. Turn the control knob to a warmer setting. Allow several
hours for the temperature to stabilize.
6.Freezer gasket is dirty, worn, cracked, or poorly fitted. Clean or change gasket. Leaks in the
door seal will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature.

If your'e positive the temp is ok then your freezer cold control may be bad. Slowly turn it toward off. If the compressor doesn't cut off before it gets to off, the control is probably bad. Test it here>http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

SOURCE: Freezer is running but the items are thawing and not freezing

it could possible be the defroster unit going out on the thermostat theres a hole on the bottom where you can access a screw that will allow you to check and see if the defroster is working put a srew driver in the hole and turn it clock wise till you here it click and then listen for the unit to start defrosting cycle you'll hear a hissing like sound if its working if not you'll need a new defrosting unit

3 year old Frigidaire upright turning ice cream to soup. Meat OK for now. Can't find the manual (of course) or locate the thermostat. Where is the thermostat? other ideas?

the fridge section will not freeze ice cream as the lowest setting 1- is not cold enough
The thermostat is normally on the side panel inside the compartment and is measured 1-10 with 4 being around the best setting
if you are referring to a 2 door fridge where the top or bottom section is the freezer, that temp will be preset in the factory and has nothing to do with the thermostat but indicates - door not sealed properly
compressor failure and needs a technician to check out the reason why

Hello Judy, thanks for your post!

From my understanding the alarm on your Frigidaire commercial chest freezer continues to go off. You have explained that the temperature is at zero degrees. It sounds like you could have a potential issue with your thermostat or sensor. I would recommend having a professional technician come out to properly diagnosis your freezer to avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Good luck. -Matt

FREEZER THERMOSTAT

Sounds like the thermostat is not working. Mechanical and electronic thermostats can go bad and cause the freezer to continue running no matter what setting is set on thermostat. When this happens the only setting that will work is turning the temperature setting to off. What is the model number on your freezer? Sea Breeze

Motor not switching off

Possible that the thermostat is not working correctly to shut off when the temperature is reached.
you must try to set the temp down to the lowest to see if the motor cuts off. If cooling is sufficient then the thermostat must be replaced.
However if cooling is inadequate the gas or the compressor must be checked.

Continues to run

It seems your temp. control board or thermistor is not reading the temps and just keeps on running and running. Can you lower it to the lowest setting and (with a thermometer) see if the temps actually get warmer inside (will take a day or two to warm up). As for the ice on the bottom if the drain for the defrost cycle is plugged you may be getting water inside which then re-freezes. Let us know what you find and we can go from there.
