Nuvi 205W keeps rebooting.

When I switched ON my Nuvi 205W, it displays GARMIN then loading maps just in a second, it goes blank. May I know what should I do?
If I connect it to the computer, it keeps on rebooting.

Even recharging fails. Connected to the charger, and it keeps on rebooting as well.

Same problem. Once you plug it in to either the car charger or USB, it doesn't charge, it starts as if you turned the power switch on and it gets to loading maps, and then resets. THere is no way to just shut it off so it can charge. Very frustrating. I have tried to hook it to the Garmin Update software, but it resets so fast that the USB device can't even get recognized long enough to try and load the latest update. Any charging ideas out there from anyone?

    Thanks

I've just had the same problem after updating the firmware and default map. I removed the mini_SD card - that sorted out the restarting problem. This isn't a real soln tho.

I helped my boss to install malfreemaps on his newly bought Taiwan Nuvi 205W with 2009 firmware. Same problem after installing the malfreemaps. Same problem as described above. SOS please.

Is it fully charged? This is typical of a unit that needs recharged.

Well friends, I been reading allot about the Garmin Nuvi constant reboot issues. I happen to have found one after searching for a month..
I have found a Nuvi 205 that constantly reboots and gives white screen only
So after looking it over and using my electronics knowledge, I found a inherent defect in the hardware, so I did a SIMPLE FIX and now its fine.
The defect is the LCD ribbon cable connector attached to the main board.. (its defective on the right sight of the clip)
So all you have to do is open the Nuvi, place a small adhesive sponge tape square about half inch squared, depending on the thickness of the tape you might need to layer an other one on top of it. close the unit up and its done..
This should work for most of the models with the same size screen as it would use the same connector. Shame on you Garmin for not doing quality control.
Hope this helps you get some sleep now people... I know allot of you have being going mad over this problem.

Can you post a picture, this is happening to me, but I don't understnad how to add the tape, and where do you get that kind of tape at?

I have had this issue: Nuve 1350 rebooting during update, the green bar failing to get to 100% consistently, just a variety of issues making it impossible to update. I followed this and it is currently installing without interruption: from the beginning there was no interruption. First take off the silver border on the front. Second unscrew the frame and remove the front panel. From there I just wiggled the screen cable around to make sure it was in place. Right now it's working great, I'll delete this post if it turns out not to work. Thank you Frank Dux this was not an obvious fix by any means.

Yes, I's a bad physical connection where the power cable plugs into the unit, but I also don't understand the tape fix. I had the exact same problem on another Garmin GPS and I GLUED the cigarette lighter power cable to the unit, and that worked, but I destroyed ever being able to update my maps! Garmin is JUNK in my opinion.

I had the same problen on a Garmin 205W after uptating to the last firware with WebUpdater. It happens connecting the usb cable with the device powered off. It turns on, shows the computer icon for a second and then reboots starting the same again. But if you turn on the GPS and then conect the usb cable, it don't reboot.

My Nuvi 200W kept rebooting after "Loading maps" and nothing seemed to fix this. Pressing reset button, connecting to PC, to power supply, removed the card, keeping ON/OFF slider in the ON position for 20 seconds -- it still kept rebooting.

    Here's what worked:
    1. Connect Garmin Nuvi to computer with USB cable.
    2. Download the Garmin Web Updater from Garmin site.
    3. IMPORTANT: Slide ON/OFF switch to the ON position and keep it there for about 40 seconds. At some point computer detected USB device and Garmin remained in the ON position.
    5. Completing WebUpdater fixed the issue.

Garmin just shows its loading maps and then screen goes blank and it repeats this even when I hold down the button for 10 seconds to reboot Why is it not turning on?

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Nuvi 205W keeps rebooting.

Your unit most likely has a firmware error, which could be due to a corrupt file. To solve it you yourself can try to update the firmware when connecting to the pc, if the unit cannot stay on enough for this to be performed, your unit will have to be sent in to service.

Nuvi 205w won't read upgraded map

You HAVE to go through software support as this is an issue with the map. They told me it is because the map KEY is wrong, it is only for the united states, but the map is ALL of north america. The wait time is incredibly long, I have been waiting for over an hour, such bad service
