Food made with KitchenAid Stand mixer tastes like grease

I just used my kitchen aid stand mixer for the first time, and the cookie dough tasted like grease. Is this normal for the first time, or do I need to return it?

My kitchen aid stand mixer is 15 years old and is beginning to give off a slight mechanical burning (??) smell when I use it. At one point during a move oil seeped out from where the rotating part connects to the upper part of the mixer. Could it be that it requires more oil..how does one do that?

The k-aid stand mixers do have a tendency to seep oil.
That oil started out as grease but has separated and is probably coming out from around the beater shaft.

Usually just wiping shaft off with a paper towel right before using is sufficient.

Also -the more frequently the mixer is used, the less likely the tendency of the grease to separate.

The likelyhood of grease coming from the mixer is extremely small. As long as the beater & bowl were washed first and the shortening you used was fresh, there shouldn't be a grease taste.

Where can I get the grease for my Kitchen aid stand mixer?

The grease is food grade grease and Kitchen Aid supply it as a spare part so depending on where you live either from themselves or an Authorised Service Agent. If you are in New Zealand then I can supply.

Can I use lucas oil white lithium in my stand mixer

They do not use oil at all, they use food grade grease. Any oil that is dripping out is the liquids separating out from the solids in the grease. You either need to open it up and stir the grease u again or remove the old grease completely and repack it with new stuff.

Kitchenaid 525 stopped working while mixing cookie dough

Let it completely cool and then start again. It overheated because your speed was set too low for the heaviness of the dough. I have burned up three kitchenaid stand mixers so far making bread. go up one setting at least; if it is straining, go up another.

What kind of grease can be used on a stand mixer after replacing a stripped worm gear? model:K45SS

Food grade grease is what Kitchen Aid put into the gearbox originally. They do supply it as a spare part if you cannot find it as a non Kitchen Aid part.

No sticker/model number on the bottom of my stand mixer and am missing the paddle attachment and dough hook.

Since you have not given a make...I'll take a stab in the dark and bet you have a kitchen aid...simply because you mentioned the dough hook. Kitchen aid has 14 models of stand mixers. You can match yours up and look at available accessories at www.kitchenaid.com

Kitchen Aid Mixer has a sound but it doesn't have power to mix

Hi. Goto www.mendingshed.com and download the free Kitchenaid Service Manual.

You may have overloaded the mixer with bread or cookie dough, causing internal damage to the gears.

If you plan to do the repair yourself, you might also consider removing the old grease and oil. Remove, clean and regrease the planetary gear assembly as well. This will add years of life to your mixer.

Regrease with Chevron FM ALC EP-2 product.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
