I just used my kitchen aid stand mixer for the first time, and the cookie dough tasted like grease. Is this normal for the first time, or do I need to return it?
My kitchen aid stand mixer is 15 years old and is beginning to give off a slight mechanical burning (??) smell when I use it. At one point during a move oil seeped out from where the rotating part connects to the upper part of the mixer. Could it be that it requires more oil..how does one do that?
The k-aid stand mixers do have a tendency to seep oil.
That oil started out as grease but has separated and is probably coming out from around the beater shaft.
Usually just wiping shaft off with a paper towel right before using is sufficient.
Also -the more frequently the mixer is used, the less likely the tendency of the grease to separate.
The likelyhood of grease coming from the mixer is extremely small. As long as the beater & bowl were washed first and the shortening you used was fresh, there shouldn't be a grease taste.
