SOURCE: Error Code 49 on Fisher & Paykel Intuitive Eco

Fault 49 usually points to the cold inlet valve, either open circuit or not connected correctly. I often come across machines that the motor controller is the problem too.

Assuming you have already done what you said you have done, now it is time to do some real troubleshooting.(Dont worry, if you have gone this far you'll be able to do what I'm going to tell you)

First take the lid off. To do this, open it, and lift up on one side, it should come right off. Now take the control panel cover off. There are two screws on the back side of the washer holding it on. You'll need to wiggle it a bit to get it off. Once the cover is off you should find a plastic bag with a "service" sheet in it. The service sheet explain how to put the machine into the "Test Mode". This is very easy to do and will allow you to check out all functions. One of the test, allows you to check the cold water inlet valve. Assuming your water pressure is good and you have indeed cleaned the screen filter going into the machine you will most likely find that the cold water valve is not opening all the way and will need to be replaced. If your handy with a phillips screwdriver you only have two more screws to take out and the valve assembly will come right out.
Don't think you can swap out the hot water valve with the cold water valve. Fisher Paykel, clever as they are made sure you can't do that. One is a proportional valve and the other is a digital valve. They both look identical but they are not!
If your going to do the repair yourself (you've come this far, why not see it through to conclusion), be sure when you call Fisher/Paykel to order the cold water inlet valve that you give them the serial number of your machine to be sure you get the correct part.
Good Luck!

Hi Dale..
It sounds like you have a leaky inlet valve assembly. The part number is 421029P and is easy to replace. You can get one here:

Hi there
That fault is the pump blocked error (no change in water level).
i have a quick and easy way to solve this problem.

first turn the machine off then tilt the machine back and lean it on something(a chair or wall), look underneath, in the top right hand corner of the plastic outer boul you will see a small pump motor it has a fan on it spin this fan and if it is hard to turn that means there is somthing stuck in the drain pump keep turning the fan and try to free whatever is stuck in the pump, then try the machine on spin again all goin well the object in the pump should come out with the drain water(doing this will not harm the machine) if the object is still stuck you will need to get the water out of the machine (bailing or siphioning will work) and tilt the machine back again and take the wires off the pump and there should be a white tab on the boul holding the pump on pull this tab and twist the pump anticlockwise about a quarter turn(you will need a few towels or a boul or bucket to catch the water) and it should come off exposing the blockage.
Hope this solves your Problem.

Nick

Fisher & Paykel GWL11 intermittently overfills on wash cycle, cold water doesn't shut off.

That sounds like the cold water valve has failed. Replace it and you will fix your problem. Those valves were not designed to be repaired.

Washing machine filled with water but wont start, the spanner, delicates sheets and high efficiency lights come on after about 30 seconds, what could i look for

Fisher& Paykel have a lot of controls. But if it's filled with water and the lights are on, you have power to the unit. Try unplugging it, waif 5 min. Power it up advance the setting to drain/ spin setting with the door closed and try it again. What do you mean the spanner ?

Is there a filter in the machine that \i should be cleaning as i keep getting black bits on the clothes?

The black bits are scum flaking off from between the inner & outer bowls, usually more common with cold water wash. Place old towel in washer, fill washer to high level with hot water, add washing soda & or vinegar, let washer run to end of wash cycle, turn off & let it soak for around an hour, turn back on & let it go through cycle. Commercial washing machine cleaning products should also be availably in your supermarket / hardware stores. You may need to repeat process until no more gunk comes out.

49 is a cold water valve fault. test the valve for voltage while filling, it should be recieving 24V. if not, the problem lies with the motor controller.

Your rotor position sensor could be faulty,
your error code should be on the wash cycle progress lights.

Error codes 49 and 245

Fault code 49 is water valves - usually, the stop working when the rubber diaphagm inside gets hard, so a resistance only test is not conclusive (only tells us the solenoid is OK).
- Do a cold fill and a hot fill (briefly) to check for strong water flow on both.
- Regarding code 245, does water pump out strongly?
- One more thought, because these codes are both related to the water level in the machine, remove the level sensor hose at the controller end and blow into it to clear any blockage.
