I would like to record the effect onto the track. I can hear the effect during recording but there is no effect on play back.
I'm not familiar with the Tascam DP-01 but many multi-track recorders don't commit effects to the track until the mixdown phase. The thinking being that you cannot eliminate a "bad choice" effect once it's down to tape (old school term) and so they allow adding the audio tweaks at the final stages of recording. Here they hope you can appreciate the entire mix and then decide what sweetners to add.
SOURCE: what kind of driver does my tascam dp 01 cd take.
No CD comes with the DP-01. The Tascam relys on your computers USB drivers to work.
You should probably try the DP-01 on someones else's computer first to se if it works there.
This is usually some kind of incompatiblity between the usb cable or the use hub and the usb speed (1.1 or 2.0). I would try bypassing any usb hub you might have in use first. If that doesn't work you might want to try another usb cable.
Good luck.

SOURCE: effects won't record or play back
Turn on the effect for the appropriate input or turn on the reverb. For the reverb you must turn up at least one tracks (the track you are using) effects send together with the Master effects return. The volume of the multi effect may need adjusting or the parameter of the effect is so low that the effect is too subtle to be noticed. Multi effect page 60 of the manual. Manual can be found at http://www.tascam.com/products/dp-01;9,16,33,19.html under resources.
SOURCE: DP02- turning on an effect but not recording effect on track
You MIGHT try turning on the effect right after hitting record. It is possible that the record cancels the effects... I don't know if this is possible, but if it is, try it.
I can kind of see a technical reason they might do this.
SOURCE: Tascam MF-P01 recorder - hearing nothing during play back
Mine also would not play back on any of the channels but would record. The problem was on the lower board, capacitors C105, C205, C305 and C405, all are 220uF, rated at 10V - on a 9V machine! All four went leaky, which meant that the op-amps each were connected to got a bias which drove the output to 8.5V and no output.
I replaced all four capacitors with new ones rated at 25V and it works again!

Here is what I did to solve this issue:
1. Open up the USB connection on your DP-01 so that you may plug into a computer:
