Replace the water supply line with plastic tubing or copper. Do not use the braided metal or vinyl line as they will cause an odor problem.

How long does it take for the plastic taste and smell to stop? We have gone through 5 gallons of water (after following all instructions prior to use) and it still has the plastic taste and some odor.

a couple gallons should have done it?
FOUL TASTE OR SMELL IN ICE OR WATER FROM FRIDGE

Check ice and water filter: If equipped, the Ice and Water filter in your refrigerator is responsible for removing any debris or contaminants from your water that may still remain after local water treatment. Most filters contain and are made up of carbon and fabric filter. Over time, the filter may become restricted and reduce the water flow to the ice maker, causing a symptom of little or no ice. Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every 6 months but local water conditions may require that you replace more frequently.

There is a bad order coming from ice and water dispenser. I changed the filter but it didn't help. Smells like ''dirt''. Thanks, Linda

Replace water supply line with the plastic tubing ice maker line. It fixed mine that had a metal braided line on it that made the water taste kie rubber and dirt,, after that I tried a vinyl braided line.and it made the water taste like garden hose water.. The plastic tubing was the cure. Reply and tell me what you have.

Drinking water has a bad taste and smell.

You will have to trace where the foul smell comes from by tracing the water line and testing the source. Check if it is before or after the filter you get the smell, if it is before the filter, you need to check if it is on the line which comes from the source or it is from the source. Most likely cleaning or probably a replacement of the part if cleaning does not help.

FRIDGE FREEZER SIDE STINKS

That is your problem.
The plastic supply lines over time deteriorate and wind up causing the water to smell.
Replace the plastic line with a stainless steel ice maker water supply line available at any home improvement center. They are 1/4 inch inside diameter lines and fittings.
They come in 5/10 and 20 foot lenghts.
After you do this run about 2 gallons of water through the water in the door dispenser. Discard the first 3 drops of ice from the ice maker.
Your ice quality will improve.

Ice from ice maker does not taste right

Hi

Ice storage bin needs to be emptied and washed. Unsealed packages in the refrigerator and/or freezer compartments may be transmitting odors/tastes to the ice cubes.
Interior of the refrigerator may need cleaning.
Water chemicals. Installing an in-line filter can help with many odor/taste complaints.
An open box of baking soda in the refrigerator section can help with preventing the transmitting of food odors.
This is a common in-line water filter, they are fairly easy to install and usually come with instructions.

Even when your well or municipal water supply provides healthy, potable water to your ice maker, some impurities may remain. These can affect the smell or taste of the ice cubes, and therefore the beverages in which you serve them. A taste and odor water filter on the incoming water-supply line--such as our charcoal "Universal Replacement Water Filter"--can help a lot.

Also, over time, the ice cube bin can absorb difficult-to-remove odors from the freezer. Some manufactures recommend that you replace the bin every 2 to 3 years, whenever it seems to be retaining objectionable odors and transferring them to the ice cubes.

A Fixya Rating would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bad water & ice cube taste

then change your filter. the new filter could be different with the old filter. check the new filter, see if there is odor removal and taste removal with it.

if not then get the filter with carbon filter, odor and taste removal.

then with a new filter, run about 5 gallons of water before using the water for drinking.
