I have the same problem with the same camcorder and I don't understand your solution. If my PC isn't recognizing the camcorder how do I go to it's camera menu to enable anything? Or is this something on my control panel? I went to the Scanners and Cameras folder and don't see anywhere that will allow me to enable USB stream option. Thank you for your time.

I assume that you are running Windows XP in your PC and have Sony DCR-TRV19 camcorder.
Please go to camera Menu and enable USB stream option. Computer will recognize camcorder.
If any thing is different, let me know to help you out.

SOURCE: Macbook not recognizing camcorder

I had this problem when first plugging in my Canon zr80 to my Mac. What I did first was (if you have it) open up the program Imovie in you're applications menu. Then plug the firewire cable into both the camera and computer. Turn the camcorder on and set it to play(VCR). Once this happens you should see a "DV in" on the camcorders screen, followed by a blue window on you're computer. The rest should be easy.

SOURCE: I just got a usb

USB will only transfer the still pictures to a computer. If you wish to capture video from the tape, you must use a firewire cable.

My computer no longer recognizes my JVC GR-D70U mini DV cam when I plug it into a usb port.

Hi, I am not sure. But I believe the camcorder has to be on when you connect to the computer. and I assume you use firewire for this particular camcorder.
I too once had this problem when I used Windows Vista. If you too use Vista, try it with Windows XP.

cheers,
