Ok, the needle is just a small portion of everything required to get up and running. Here is a diagram of what your going to need:

Needle for Technics mk5 - c8b204d.jpg
The stylus, also known as the Needle, is what you are asking for. As you can see it's only 1 of 3 items you need:

1) Headshell
2) Cartridge
3) Stylus / Needle

If you already have 1 and 2, and you need to replace #3, then we would need to know what model #2 is?

You'll need what's called a STANDARD Mount cartridge, (aka Half-inch). In addition, that cartridge will need to be mounted to a Standard Mount Headshell.

Here is a collection of Standard Mount Cartridges that will fit this model.

Try to stay away from those all-in-one configurations that look like the Concorde airplane. Over time they will damage your tonearm due to a poor design flaw. Stick with a set up similar to the image posted. You can't go wrong, and you'll have more options.

Can I replace the head on a Technics SL5350?

Hi,
Yes the "head" otherwise called the Headshell can be replace. They are a pretty standard fitting. You can remove it by unscrewing it from the arm. It should only take half a twist or so to release it, then lightly pull the headshell towards you.

Need a needle for a TECHNIC SL-3350

It's 'TechnicS' and 'stylus'. Wouldn't a web search have been faster?

"TECHNIC SL-3350 stylus"

But even 'technic" and 'needle' would have worked.

Depends where in the world you live. If in the USA Radioshack, should have something to do the job. And in the UK Maplins have a good range of cables.

Buzzing from one Technics MK5 1200

More than likely your RCA's need to be replaced. There is no need to open it up, as the ground wire rarely every comes loose. It's held down by a screw & soldered to the circuit board. Unless you pulled on the ground wire.

There are only 3 issues which can cause this:

1) Technics Tonearm - Check the 4 prongs inside the tonearm. Make sure they are all clean (shiny gold), and all protruding the same distance. There are springs behind these prongs, and often times they do come loose over time or overtightening.

2) Technics RCA Cables - This is more than likely the culprit.

3) Cartridge/Headshell - swap out with your good unit. If it works, then your good. Just replace cartridge

With the exception of #3, the other 2 will require assistance from a qualified service technician, otherwise you could cause more damage to your turntables.
