Washer first would not drain, but when dial was turned back to spin cycle, then it would drain. The washer continued in this status for a week, then the washer started to work normally again followed by its current status of not draining. I took off the tubes and they are not clogged. Pump does not appear to be clogged either. Washer does spin and belts appear to be ok. I am wondering if it is a faulty dial/timer?

sounds like you have a blown fuse. I dont have a schematic so I dont kno where you have to look to find it
SOURCE: maytag top load washer won't pump water out=intermittent problem
If your lid switch was the problem I dont think (and I might be wrong) that it would spin in the first place.
Your pump may have a separate belt and it could be loose or worn out but this is on older models. The pump may not be turning or turning and not pumping. The pulley may be turning on the shaft and its not pumping. Give it a
spin and see if you see it turning inside. If not replace it.
The motor and timmer sounds good because of the "spin" you discribed. So we are left with the pump or a filter if it has one.
Look in the lower section find the pump front right hand corner I believe. Trace the hose back up to the tub above nothing in between and you have eliminated the filter. I filter could be any shape but will either attach with 2 hoses or 1 hose and attached to the side or bottom of the outer tub.
I think your pump is probably stopped up, strings and lint especially if you have some older rugs, towels, and rags that are shedding or coming apart. You can try and clean it pretty easily Unplug. Then remove it and look inside it. Catch all the water you can and keep another towel close by. Examine the water. Looking for lint and the like. If its pretty clean looking and not turning freely look for signs of something wrapped up inside it.
Hope this helps. Please rate me accordingly and good luck.

I have not taken the pump off, but watched as the cycle progressed and there didn't seem to be any attempt by the pump to even start when it was time for it to operate.
