One of your picture tube is arcing..bad tube. need to identify and replace.

This set shares the same chassis as some of the RCA models so More than likely a problem with the Horizontal deflection or the flyback transformer. Its not really something that the average person should take on and without the proper test equipment you could do more damage than good. But thats a starting point.

that model is famous for bad flybacks. It uses flyback number 265409 you can get a replacement at the following link with free online tech support that will explain how to install the replacement. Here is the link.

Pop and flash meaning that the picture turns on and off? Many people's tv eventually just turns off all together. Furthermore, if you notice a crackling sound, it isn't just the sound of the tv turning off, it is the sound of sparks and flames emitting from the back of the television. Take notice of this as it is a fire hazzard. If you do notice this, please report the problem to the consumer product safety commision. I beleieve this common problem with large sparks and flames warrants a recall.

It sounds like your focus/screen block, the flyback transformer, or maybe a CRT anode lead is leaking high voltage. This could be a serious problem, or could be a simple one. You should not attempt this repair unless you know all of the high voltage safety issues involved with this TV set. Good Luck
