Test the songs that are not playing on the iPod in iTunes and see if the original file is still playable on iTunes if the song still plays re-sync your iPod could be when iTunes copied the song it must have failed or timed out, if that fails re-syncing try restoring you iPod Nano i have had this problem before and I just re-synced and it worked fine!
your itunes library is not being found by iTunes or you are on another computer. in the summary screen which can be located in the upper tabs or by clicking on the ipod next to your name, uncheck the automatically sync music and this will give you the ability to load music to your ipod manually. just open the drive and drag and drop songs to your ipod by dropping them in the first column of the large white area in the music folder. If you have moved your itunes library you can click on edit and then preferences and choose advanced. browse for your music folder and save it. Warning: do not change your music folder if you are automatically syncing songs unless all of your music is stored there. because it will sync and delete anything not found in that folder.
It sounds like you have your IPOD set to automatically sync to your itunes library instead of being set to manually select the songs. If you have it set to automatically sync then anytime you plug your ipod in with itunes open then only the songs that are in your Itunes library will be on your IPOD after you disconnect it from the computer. If you would have set it to manually sync then you would have had to choose which songs to put on your IPOD and also which to take off. If you had it set to automatically sync then I am sorry to inform you, but your songs are gone from your IPOD (and if you have it set to delete the song from the computer as well as the library then the song is gone from your laptop too)
