It sounds like a utensil has fallen below the heating elements.

  • Anonymous Feb 20, 2013

Took out covers to heatting elements. Took off drip shield covering burners. nothing there. I did notice around range door of bottom oven, there is a metal/mesh door seal that looks and feels completely burnt (ie hard, almost browning blackish color). Not sure how seal is getting burnt as I thought they were heat proof. Haven't foudn anything out of the ordinary.

SOURCE: Maytag Gemini oven glass door panels impossible to clean

We had an ugly spill of hot grease/water from a roast, and lots of it ran right into the vent holes on our oven door, covering various layers of glass and other parts inside the door. Yuck. Thankfully we found this site!

"fixetheoven" was certainly on the right track, but missed a key step that makes this job much, much easier. (Maybe they had a few too many sips of wine during the process?! :-)

Anyway, the key to make the job easy, and do-able by one person, is to pull the door off the hinges before starting to remove any screws! Here's how we did it:

1. Open the door about four inches or so, it will stay in place. Hold the door at the sides and lift it up, sliding it right off of the hinges! Now lay it carefully face up on a table so you have easy access to the screws, and no danger of the glass dropping out of the bottom of the door (as apparently happened to "fixedtheoven".)
2. Remove the two screws that hold the panel on one side of the door. (One screw is halfway up the side panel, the other is on the bottom edge of the door.)
3. Slide the panel off, paying close attention to how it fits into place so you can return it to its original position later!
4. Remove the two screws that hold the panel on the other side of the door, and slide that panel out as well.
5. Remove the three screws that hold the panel across the bottom edge of the door, and remove that panel.
6. Now you can slide the front glass out from under the top edge of the door.
7. Clean the front glass, the side panels, and the bottom panel, as needed.
8. There will be another layer of glass inside the door. If it needs cleaning on the underside, remove the screws from one of the metal brackets that hold the glass in place. You can then slide this piece of glass out from the metal bracket at the other side.
9. After cleaning everything, reassemble the door by reversing the above steps.
10. Lift the door by the sides and carefully slide it back into place on the hinges. Be sure it is properly in place and being held there before you let go!!
11. Now go pour that glass of wine and sip to your heart's content, while admiring how clean your oven door is!

Why is the dishwasher smelling like electric burning and smoke coming out of the door vent?

Hi friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Frigidaire dishwasher is giving off an electric burning smell and you are seeing smoke coming out of the door vent. It could possibly be an issue with your control panel or door vent, both have electrical components inside of them. Since it could be either one of these underlying issues I would recommend having a technician come out to your home and diagnose and repair the dishwasher. Hope this helps. -Matt

Why do i smell gas?

Either one or more of the hobs or oven may be turned on but not lit or there is a leak. Check all controls are turned off, if you can still smell gas I would recommend turning the gas off at the meter point and calling either a professional gas fitter or the gas emergency services. It would also be wise to not smoke and open a window or door until the gas smell has gone.

Has anyone else had a serious problem with the electrical wiring in their Maytag Gemini Gas Range? Without using the stove, the ignitors started firing and then stopped when I turned all the burners on....

Same problem here - and I have read about others with this problem. Usually blamed on moisture getting into the control unit ( which is under the backmost burner knob). I did not have a spill on the cooktop, nor was I "over zealous" cleaning. Looks like a bad design. Waiting to hear from the technician how much THIS is going to cost me...

Oven smokes and smells like burning plastic

This happened with my oven, happened twice to the same (newer) oven actually. The smell and smoke occurred both with the oven and with the use of burners on stove top. Turned out it was the main line cord which had a split. The first repair they replaced the thermol block and all the bolts holding it into place (for a total of 9 parts) the second time (about a year later) the repairman replaced the line cord and said that it probably should have been done along with the first repair. The smell coming from the oven before the repair was a toxic burning wire or burnt plastic smell. There was also smoke if the oven was left on long enough. The repairman said that the amount of heat to "cook" the connection on the line was at a fairly dangerous level. It was recommended to me by the fire inspector (who was in my unit for annual condo inspections) that it was unsafe and to have it repaired immediately. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Are you sure it's clean/ Does the smoke smell like wire burning or plastic? Is there a chance that there is some left over spill just burning off?

Smoke pours from under the range top when a burner is on

[UPDATE} I gathered up the courage and left the element on for a while, carefully using aluminum foil in place of a drip pan. No bad smell. The initial odor was just the residual burning off of the last of the rust/dust. I was worried about directly contacting the hot element with the foil so I made sure it didn't directly touch the element but that was probably an unnecessary concern as aluminum foil has a very very high melting point

Maytag Gas range

We had the same thing happen and had the Atco Gas company come out to look at it.  Our regulator was not working properly which caused CO to be relased.  We were told that the problem could be fixed for about $250-300 (CAN.) including parts and labour.

Funny Smell

ALL YOUR FLAMES SHOULD BE CLEAN BLUE FLAMES WITH NO WHITE OR YELLOW TIPS OR FLAMES !!!! YELLOW FLAME = DIRT OR PAINT? WHITE = LACK OF AIR SOUNDS LIKE YOUR STOVE IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH COMBUSTION AIR. INPROPER AIR ADJUSTMENTS OR LACK OF AIR WILL CAUSE A WHITE TIP ON THE FLAME ... THAT IS CARBON-MONIXIDE !!! A CLEAN BLUE FLAME EMITTS CARBON-DIOXIDE AND IS NORMAL. IF YOU USED AN AIR-GUN TO PAINT, CHANCES ARE YOUR BURNERS HAVE A SLIGHT COATING ON THEM AND HOPEFULLY WILL BURN OFF IN TIME. TRY OPENING ALL YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS IN YOUR HOUSE ... AND TURN ALL BURNERS ON AND LET THEM BURN FOR AN HOUR. DO NOT LKEAVE SIGHT OF THE STOVE, BUT KEEP NEAR A OPEN WINDOW. NOTICE !!! MOST GAS COMPANIES WILL COME OUT AT NO CHARGE TO CHECK GAS, AND FOR CARBON-MONOXIDE.(C0) NOT (CO2).
