Question about Marantz SR8500 Receiver

Open Question

No audio I've had my Marantz SR8500 for over 3 years and have not had any problems with it.  A few months ago, I started hearing "quacking" noises from the rear speakers and subwoofer.  I now get no audio at all.  There is no audio through the headphone jack either.  The wiring is all fine.  Any suggestions?

Hi I had my SR7200 in the shop also. The 1st time they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I brought it home and had the same problem. Brought it back and they had it for about 1 month and finally called and said that they talked with Marantz and the DSP needed to be replaced. They said that they would have to send it to Mararntz and it would cost about $150

Check the settings on your dvd player!. It might be set to PCM
instead of HDMI.

Check the speakers impedance. it should be greater then 6ohm otherwise you overload the system. Also, if the speaker sytem is rated (in Watts) below the amplifier's power it overloads the amp at higher volumes.

SOURCE: Marantz SR7500 headphone jack stopped working

There is a contact inside the jack that is closed when the plug is inserted. Apparently this is no longer happening. This should be an easy repair for a qualified technician.

SOURCE: no audio output - Marantz 2238

This can be as simple as a poor connection somwhere in the voltage regulator circuit or a defective driver transistor or output transistor. In any case, this is a simple repair for any shop that works on vintage receivers. If it is the outputs, that will be the most expensive repair from a parts perspective. The outputs will cost in the $5-$10 range for each one and it could be 2-4 pieces. If you wish to attempt this repair yourself, you will need a multimeter that has a diode checker. Let me know and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

Check all the solder terminal at its main power regulator section circuit. Any loose solder terminal can poise this type of problem. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder. If you wish to get more details, check this site.

You should check the coil mattress cover. Feel around to make sure nothing is puncturing the bladder. It is not normal for them to fail like that. When you deflate it, you must make sure all of the air is out of the bladder before folding the unit back into the sofa. If you don't, you make end up with a problem at the seams.

This is the problem with computerized stereo's. The old analog stuff we could fix forever, but many of these digital problems, only the maker has the tools to repair. Feel fortunate that yours will even offer you support, even though expensive.
Good luck.
